Former Algona Man To Work On Doctorate A former Algonan, Jerry Reilly, son of Mr. and Mrs, Bob Reilly, Algona, was recently awarded a fellowship in the Institute of Fine Arts, Claremont, Calif. A graduate oi Algona High School in 1951, Jerry later received his master's degree at SCI, Cedar Falls, and will now be working toward his doctorate, Mr. Reilly has been teaching for several years in California. His wife is Betsy McConnell, also a former Algonan. At Award Day Mrs. Dan Engesser, Algona, Sioux City diocesan youth chairman, attended the CYO Award Day Sunday at Ft. Dodge. Mrs. Engesser was responsible for the coordination of youth activities in the diocese over the past year. Award Day is set aside each year to exhibit the entries and honor those who have excelled in various areas of the entire program, along with adults who are recognized for their work with youth. Mrs. Engesser is a past recipient of the Adult Leadership Award. COUNCIL MINUTES The City Council met April 26 In regular session with Mayor Finn and the following council members present: Muckey, Andreasen, Cook, Miller andPelrce. Absent: Elbert. Minutes of last two meetings were approved. T. James Palmer, Supt. of Utilities, gave report on proposed extension of water mains 1 within the city limits and also discussed sites for location of sub-stations for the light department. This was referred to the Park Board and Planning and Zoning Commission, since one site was located at the swimming pool park area and the other on a platted street area. Quarterly report from the Algona Municipal Utilities was approved and placed on filed In the Clerk's office. Resolution approving the annexation of property bordering the southwest part of the city, was adopted. Resolution approving the Riverview Heights Add. platt, was adopted. Tall Paul's application for a liquor permit was approved. Resolution naming the Iowa State Bank and Security State Bank as official depositories for Algona Municipal Utilities, was adopted. Offer to buy Lot 1, Blk. 162, Call's Add. by H. Wise of Corwith, Iowa was tabled. Airport Commission met with the Council to discuss the building of a new hangar at the airport. Letter from the Secretary of Kossuth County Bar Association was read concerning the hiring of professional appraisers tore- assess real estate values inKos- suth County as proposed by the State Tax Commission and the question if a re-assessment or reappraisal is actually needed in this county. No action was taken at this time. Letter from Hamilton Funeral Home and McCullough Funeral Chapel was read stating that as of June 30, 1067, they will not offer ambulance service after that date.
