T A.H.S. BY ESTEBAN Tuesday, May 2, 1967 Algona (la.) Upper Des Moine«-5 ELECTIONS FOR next year's Student Council off Ices took place last Wednesday. Candidates were Jeff Allen, Rich Black and Phyllis Moulton for president. Sue Dodds, Miriam Kautsch and Linda Ross, secretary, and Robbie Claude, Greg Perkins and Tim Black, treasurer. Congratulations are in order for President Rich Black; Vice President Phyl Moulton; Secretary, Miriam Kautsch; and Treasurer Tim Black. 366 votes were cast. - o - FTA INSTALLED its officers last Tuesday evening. Bev Knudsen is the new president, Tim Black is vice president, Ruth Johnson, secretary, and Pat Hopkins, treasurer. The parliamentarian is Jeff Allen and Lynn Buchanan, historian. Bill Burt will serve as publicity chairman and Jean Taylor heads the music-recreation committee. - o - WHEN THE door knocked in English Lit last week and Mrs. Kelley came in from the hall carrying an incriminating-sized sack, we all wondered who it was for. Much to our surprise (and Ron's) the present was a bottle of medicine for feeble Ron Presthus. Kind of suspenseful for a moment there. - o - DID YOU know there are 8,540 nails in the study hall ceiling ? - o - IT'S TIME for John Vint's golfers to get a little publicity. Here is the team: Kim Sloniker, Bruce Olsen, Don Hagen, Gary Hagen, Tom Claude, Jeff Allen, Greg Perkins, Tim Will, Craig Taylor, Neil Smith, Mike Dailey, John Chrischilles, Max Laird, and Jay Geving. Let's go, you guys! - o - THE MASTERPIECE has returned. The senior class's nominee for the best film of '67 is here I Its even passed the most scrutinizing censor of them all. Yes, Mr. Allen has got to admit, it WAS hilarious if I do say so myself. You should see it. - o - Only 12 days left for the seniors 1 - o - SPORTS QUEEN candidates have been announced. They are Barb Knudsen, Brenda Sjogren, Connie Schultz and Kathie Morz. When's the dance ? SYMPHONETTES SANG some sweet songs for the Kiwanis meeting last Wednesday night. - o - MAY 1 WAS Law Day for the seniors. They were excused for the day to attend the mock trial at Garrigan. This Friday the class of '67 hits the road for Ames. Yes, it's VEISHEA city. Oh no I Those econ reports are due May 12, aren't they ? Well, we might have to pass up some of these wonderful social events, because, after all, "education is the foundrtion of the state." - o - QUESTION: WHAT'S more important, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or education (you know, like school)? - o - ESTE'BAN WAS honored recently when he received word of Action's popularity DOWN FLORID A WAY. A special thanx to fellow journalists Jean, Nan and Winnie the Pooh. - o - FOR THOSE of you who attended the junior-senior banquet, that "ehs" at the bottom of the poem entitled "Nighttime Fantasy" stands for Mr. Sonksen. We think it was a beautiful piece of writing. You ought to have a copy of that for the scrapbook. - o - WE'D LIKE to print a few of our favorites from the senior class will: Bill Boldridge leaves with Us hair in his eyes. Vernon Cole leaves with a pencil behind his ear. Connie Darby shire leaves with a Maclean's smile. Bob Elbert leaves walking in all directions. Dennis Georg leaves to become Stanley Beamish. Darryl Johnson leaves his shower cap to Mr. Knobloch. Kathy Morz leaves to wait up for Karl. Gary Schultz leaves the coaching to Howie. Tom Snyder leaves Mr. Nettle- son's lap empty. Margaret Utt leaves for party after party after party. - o - CAPITAL JARGON: DIGGER- a person who tries to help his fellow man. HIPPY — a young person who rejects society as a whole and would rather beg than work. DORF - a clod, an inept, unpleasant person. FLAK - talk which irritates or confuses the listener. - o - THE BIG song tliis week (mostly with prom-goers) is "Giirrls in short, short dresses". Minor Mishap A pickup truck-auto accident here Thursday at 9:35 a.m. resulted in an estimated $275 damage, according to police who investigated. The pickup was driven by Ida Wildin and the auto by Home Gregory, both of Algona, and they collided at the intersection of McGregor and Ridgely streets. Gregory was charged with failing to enter safely after stopping.
