THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC Loretta Anna Johnsen, 81, of Phoenix, died Wednesday, June 21, 2006. Loretta was born in Buffalo, N.Y. on April 20, 1925. She was a middle child of 8, born to Basil and Minnie Tromp. Her brothers were Albert, Ralph, Richard, and Arnold.

Her sisperther. were and Loretta grew up in Cleveland, where she graduated from High School with Scholastics aswardshe as well as sports awards. participated in all sports, which included, Roller Skating, Bowling, Track and Field, and Basketball, just to name a few. She worked as a Life Guard at a children's camp before coming to work at Graphite Bronze Defense Plant in Cleveland, where she met her life love George. They moved separately shortly thereafter, out California to Phoenix, where they enjoyed 54 years together In marriage.

Loretta's work history includes several years with Salt Project and 30 years, as an Assistant Controller the Goldwater's Dept. Store Corporation. Which sometimes involved association with Senator Barry Goldwater, before retiring at the age of 61. She was quite active thru the years with the Lutheran Church where she served for 4 years as the Treasurer of WELCA Grand Canyon and the Women's Capitol Conference. She attended 38 years at Dei Lutheran Church, where she served as Treasurer, Sunday morning counter, Sunday School Teacher, and many years as a regular Choir member.

She organized annual meetings traveling to different cities, and Women's retreats, which included a trip to Australia in She also Bowled with the Phoenix. 50 years Women's and Bowling served as Associa- President and Treasurer. Loretta is survived by her 3 children, Dennis, Debra, and Doug and 3 gr grandchildren, Justin, Sean, and April and 3 step grandchildren, Tonya, Jamie, and Kristy. Loretta achieved her teenage ambition to get married and raise a family. The Love and devotion she showed to her family, to Jesus as her Lord and Savior, and to her friends is unsurpassed.

She was known and loved by a number of people and will be greatly missed and remembered by all those she touched. Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006 at at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 3539 E. Stanford Paradise Valley, AZ. 85253. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.

Frances Knafels, 96, of Peoria, Arizona, passed away on June 25, 2006. Frances was predeceased by her beloved husband, John. She is survived by her son Donald (Joan) Knafels, her grandchildren John (Anna) Knafels and Beth (Brad) Foster, and her great-grandchildren Sarah, Matthew and Christopher Foster. John E. McKamey, Sr. 60, of Chino Valley, AZ passed away on June 20, 2006. He was born November 3, 1945 in Geneva, IL. John, a loving father, grandfather, family member and friend, will always be remembered as a phenomenal musician, outdoorsman, sportsman, and dog lover.

He served the Swedish Army and immigrated the United States in 1965 on a transatlantic ship. remembrance of Tempe, passed He was born to of 30 seeing the Statue of Liberty from the deck for the first time stayed with him always. Goran settled in Southern California and was the CFO for Zenith Insurance, a New York listed firm. He later became the CFO for HRN Services with offices thru out the Western region. After moving to Arizona for retirement in 1999, he became a fan of all things ASU.

He was an ardent supporter of Sun Devil baseball, women's basketball, and football. Goran sang in the choir at All Saints Newman center, loving every minute. He sang and played the piano beautifully for anyone who would listen. Goran was a longtime tennis player, a marathoner, finishing five Los Angeles marathons, and a superb bicyclist, often enjoying 100 mile daily rides. Goran is survived wife, Deborah, children Peter (Vanessa), Thomas and Carol, four grandchildren Mikeena and Kiya Daly and Shane and Cole Ryden and step children Joseph and Patrick Rice.

He is also survived by his sister Birgit Henningsson (Tura) of Orebro, Sweden and nephews Matthias and Marcus. His true life's work for the last 40 years was devoted to Zapffe Silversmiths; a family owned and operated business in Mesa, AZ and Seattle, WA.

Don was passionate about the art of silver restoration and instilled that same love in all of his children that worked beside him. He also loved sports, Kentucky BBQ, collecting silver souvenir spoons and most of all his beloved family. We will miss him dearly, and cherish all the special memories he leaves us. Services will be in Seattle, WA on July 14, 2006 with a memorial mass at Sacred Heart Church. www.operationsmile.org Deborah Vaughn. Born June 30, 1951 She was in Flushing, NY. She was the daughter of Stanley and Mildred Gerstenfeld. She passed away in Mesa surrounded by her loving family on June 26, 2006 after a courageous battle with various medical condi- tions. Debbie spent the first part of her life in Southern California where she met her beloved husband Raimund Vaughn.

After having a son, Eric, they moved to AZ where they have spent the last 28 years. Her life has been full of family, friends, boating, traveling and living life to the fullest. She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Raimund; her son Eric Vaughn and his wife Andrea; and her brother Steven Gerstenfeld and his wife Judi. A grandchild, Edward James, is due in early October. She is preceded in death by her parents.

Bonnie (Adank) Plapp, 77, of Glen- dale, AZ passed away on June 20, 2006. She was a member of the Red Hat Society.

She did volunteer work at Maryvale Hospital Survivors include her children: one daughter Connie (Alan) Jensen; two sons Steve (Laila) Plapp and Rev. and Rose Schuster. After graduation from the Visitation Academy in Dubuque, she moved with her parents to met the Phoenix love in of 1950. her She life Lawrence, married and later raised their four children in Phoenix. Katie was an active parishioner and volunteer for Sts. Simon and Jude for many years.

After her kids were grown, Katie went to work for Dillard's Department store until her retirement. She enjoyed both her co-workers, and the store discount After her retirement she stayed active in her church and volunteered with her husband Larry. She enjoyed spending time with her family and in particular her 6 grandchildren, and spent many evenings camping under the starry sky with them. Katie was a great friend to many and was known for her sage advice and great sense of humor, not to mention her card playing skills. Katie was predeceased by her husband, Larry Yost, two of her children, Karen and Steven, her parents, J.P.

and Rose Schuster and her brother Harold F. Schuster. Two sons survive her, Joseph Yost (Jennifer) of Chandler and Richard Yost of Williams, her sisters, Rose Melter of Phoenix and Gloria Schuster of Michigan. Six grandchildren, Brandon, Megan, Shaun; and Avery Yost, and Alek and Naomi White also survive her. In addition, Katie has several nieces and nephews who loved her and a treasured set of card playing friends that have known each other for over 40 years.

She was loved by all and will be missed by many. The viewing will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Rosary at 7 pm on Thursday, June 29th at Hansen Mortuary. The funeral mass will be held at St Paul's Catholic Church starting at 9 am on Friday, June 30th. Interment will be at St. Francis Cemetery.

Ziemba, age 59, sadly. passed away on Father's Day, June 18, 2006. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Gene Ziemba. He lived in Cleveland for 40 years before moving to Phoenix. He was a pressman for 41 years, most recently at The Arizona Republic.

He is survived by his two sons, Michael and Chris; brother John; sisters Evelyn and Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews. He will be, greatly missed. He was known for his love of bowling, golfing, riding his Harley, and CML. Friends and family are invited to join together for a memorial service at 3 pm, Saturday, July 1st at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Main, Mesa, Arizona.
