This was the opinion expressed by Winnell Simmons, home servica 4 rector for the Houston Natural Gas Corporation, when she visited Freer port Thursday of last week, and spected the pressure cookers which the gas company will again make available to home makers on a free lean basis. Mrs. Simmons reports the cookers in good condition and ready for immediate use. She urges that those who wish to borrow them visit or telephone Hie gas company office in the near future and make their reservations well in advance.

De. tailed instruction sheets concerning the proper use of the cookers will be supplied upon request. Tested canning recipes are also available. Although gas company's free loan pressure cooker program is only in its second year of operation, 2,255 housewives have borrowed the portable-sized cookers to can in 11 their own horns more than 120,000 pints of vegetables, fruit, meat and poultry. Now that ration points have been i restored to many canned foods, and the government is making a plea to patriotic housewives for stimulated home canning to relieve the nation's food shortage, it is anticipated that Si home canning will reach a new peak.

Orlando Phelps lived his entire life upon this plantation. His family consisted of six children, all of whom were born at Orozimbo. In the War Between the States he was commissioned Colonel in the Confederate Army to enlist recruits from Brazoria County. After the close of this war, he resumed his duties of the plantation much in accord with the management of his father.

His death occurred in the Mansion home. His daughter, Minnie Phe'ps Vasmer, had his remains interred in Glenwood Cemetery Houston, Texas. This once active plantation sharec the fate of many others; it has gradually declined from that period; i has become the property of severa owners. The homesite comprising som four hundred acres, is now owned and occupied by a colored man. His home is built directly over the foundations of the two former first, a log structure and the second, a two-story Colonial Mansion.

The present durable six- room bungalow is constructed of, much of the lumber and bricks of its predecessor, the Mansion. The remains of the stack chimnpv and outlines of several brick walks are plainly seen by the visitor.
