4-Algona (la.) Upper Det Moinet Tuesday, April 4, 1967 Algonan Home With Discharge From Service Pvt. Lesyle J. Burns of Algona, son of Mrs. Eleanor Burns, is home from army service with a complete medical discharge. He flew from Fort Bliss, Texas to Sioux City, where he was met by his brother, Lee G. Burns and the latter*s wile, who drove him to Algona. Lesyle will resume his studies at S.C.I, where he enrflled as a senior in chemistry, after a visit with his mother, and brother Lynn. Mr. and Mrs. Lee Burns returned to Hawarden where Lee is a science teacher and he is also attending the University of South Dakota working toward a master's degree. Mrs. Lee Burns is supervisor of nurses at West Sioux Community Hospital at Hawarden. 5 Enlistments From Kossuth Recent enlistments in the armed forces, as reported by Kossuth Selective Service office, includes the following: Navy — James F. Schoby, Algona; Clyde Moore, Jr., Burt; Daniel T. Gilmore, Whittemore; Coast Guard, John A. Oakland, Algona. One Kossuth man was inducted, Mark G. Hamilton, Lakota. Graduate Of Trade School WM. WALDSCHMIDT William Waldschmidt, a graduate of Garrigan high whose parents are Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Waldschmidt of Rodman, has just completed a course in refrigeration and air conditioning at Universal Trade School, Omaha, and is now a graduate of that school. TOMATOES Tomatoes ripening in Iowa in March are actually growing for the Jay D. Grahams, Burt. The Grahams planted a pot with tomatoes last fall and now have 15 tomatoes on their plant with many blossoms formed. Council Minutes The City Council met in regular session with Mayor Pro Tern Ken Peirce and the following council members: Muckey, Andreasen, Elbert, Cook and Miller. Absent: Mayor Finn. Minutes of last meeting were approved. Algona Moose Lodge beer application was approved. Chester Willey was appointed Fire Chief of the Algona Fire Department. Vacate McCoy street from Poplar street south to Milwaukee Railroad was approved. Proposed plat of Riverview Heights Add. to city was tabled until next council meeting. Petition requesting that the city council consider the granting to Algona Cable Corp. a franchise to install cable TV without an election was presented to the council by E. Faulstich. Algona Chamber of Commerce presented a letter urging the council to continue the study to provide better TV for Algona. Request was tabled for further investigation.
