ARIZONA REPUBLIC OBITUARIES WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 14, 2005 B11 Robert Newmyer, 49; film I producer By Matea Gold LOS ANGELES TIMES Robert F. Newmyer, a prolific independent film producer who worked on sex, lies and videotape, Training Day and the Santa Clause movies, died Monday while on location in Toronto. He was 49. Newmyer, a partner in Outlaw Productions, was an industry veteran with more than two dozen film credits. The news of his sudden death- caused by a heart attack that had been triggered by an asthma attack while he working out at a gym, according to friends spread quickly through the entertainment industry, in which he was well-known for his passion for filmmaking.

Carl Soto. Award Winning Sports Dies. Award winning Writer, Carl Soto away on December 10th 2005. Carl a loving devoted father, and husband leaves behind his wife Geri and his children Joyce Taylor, Linda Snodgrass, and Larry Soto. He will be forever missed, by his grandchildren Scott Stephen Pickering, Gary, Jimmy, and Cheryl Taylor as well as his loving great-grand children Mark, Laura, and Jason Pickering, Cory, Chantz, and GJ Taylor.

Carl will not be forgotten by his Nieces and Nephews Gerry, Donnie, Robert, Trish Soto, and Marilynn Brown. Carl served his country in World War Il as a teletype operator with the 5th Armored Division. Upon leaving the Army he worked for United Press International while living in Buffalo, New York. He relocated his family to Arizona in 1961, where he continued his career in Sports Journalism. He was a sports writer for the Arizona Republic he covered Horse Racing at Turf Paradise for them where he had a column "Carls Choices." also wrote for Moon Valley Country Club Newsletter.

Without question was his passion for the sport Golf. He played in many local Pro-Am games as well as wrote about them. He wrote about and was admired by the players in the Pro Golf Association, the Ladies Pro Golf Association. Many of his accomplishment were receiving the Harry C. Ekoff Award, The Samaritan Journalism Award, and was inducted into the Samaritan Hall of Fame.

Springer, 50, of Mesa passed away on December 5, 2005. While his production company at one point had a long-term deal with Warner for which he produced the Denzel Washington-vehicle Training Day, among other movies, he was also working on such eclectic fare as The Lost Boys of Sudan, a film inspired by a 60 Minutes piece about refugees of the Sudanese civil war. Joy 1938 in born Phoenix, on June Arizona. 1, She joined her parents Thomas Melton Tackett and Marjorie Marie Drake Tackett and two brothers Thomas Jr. and Reese Allen who preceded her in death. She was the loving sister of Doris Baker and Melvin Tackett. She is also survived by her uncle Lloyd Drake and her aunt Margaret Eccleston, Gene Bakflickette, her Harbushka, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, Dehaan, nieces Kathy Patty Debbie Zimmerman and her nephews Douglas Baker, Jon Tackett and Edward Tackett.

In addition Joy is survived by close and loving cousins Sherry Balzer, Shirley Fisher, Charles Yoakuim, two great-nieces, six great nephews and seven second cousins. Joy's many friends were an important part of her life and she valued and loved each and everyone of them. She spent many hours on the phone visiting and laughing with them. They played an important part in her social life. Joyce was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints and valued the home lessons she received.

She also was active for many years with The Indoor Sports Club of which she often held a leadership position. She made many friends throughout the state in this club. Everyone who knew Joy enjoyed her quick wit and her sense of humor. She had some writing talent and her family and friends always looked forward to receiving her "special" Christmas letter each year. We all will always treasure our memories of Joy and will miss her greatly.

As we shed our tears of sadness at her leaving us, there are loved ones who have tears of happiness at welcoming her to her new life. Survived by loving husband of forty-eight years, Norman, and only son, Chris, daughter-in-law, Beverly and granddaughters, Peren, Eva and Sherida. Ruth was foster mother for 25 years to many young women whom still call her Ruth enjoyed many careers. She was a former teacher and later retired from the Phoenix Police Department after making numerous life-long friends. A native of Washington, D.C., Newmyer graduated from Swarthmore College and was attending Harvard Business School when he decided to enter the movie business. Newmyer started off as a vice president of production and acquisitions at Columbia Pictures. In the late 1980s, he helped form Outlaw Productions, named after Newmyer's favorite Clint Eastwood character, the Outlaw Josey Wales. The company hit it big with sex, lies and videotape. She especially loved being around the great grandchildren, reading to them, and just watching them play.
