The expert rating Is the highest mark a soldier can achieve In his rifle qualification test. His wife, Joanne, lives In Lone Rock. - o - ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Jeffrey W. Boyken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward 0. Boyken of Tlt- onka, has been promted to first lieutenant In the U. S. Air Force. Lieutenant Boyken Is a tactical fighter pilot at Elmendorf AFB, Alaska. He Is a member of the Alaskan Air Command which guards the northern air approach to North America. A 1961 graduate of Tltonka High School, the lieutenant received his B. W. degree In aerospace englneelng In 1965 from Iowa State University where he was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps program. His wife, Carolyn, is the daughter of Mrs. Lois Thompson of Ellsworth, Iowa. - o Nebraska was the first State in the Union to mobilize and have Us troops ready for Federal service in the Spanish American War. Council Minute* The City Council met InSpeclal session Feb. 8, 1967, with Mayor Finn and the following council members present: Muckey.And- reasen, Elbert, Cook andPelrce. Absent: Miller. The NJayor called this Special meeting to meet with the engineer for the proposed curb and gutter project for 1967 and any other business that would come before the council. Class C beer permit and a cigarette permit was approved for Sjogren's Grocery. The rest of the meeting was spent discussing with H. Smith, engineer from Mason CHy, la., 1967 proposed projects. Request was read from Supt. Lalng to allow the Bertha Godfrey School to hook up to the TV tower at the residence of Eugene Faulstlch at 209 South Main street. Request was approved. Ken's Auto Service submitted the low bid for the new police car and a contract was awarded to Ken's Auto. A letter was read by the Mayor from a group of citizens Interested In translator television In Algona. Annual report of the Algona Municipal Utilities for 1966 was presented to the council by Allen Buchanan, member of the Utilities board and James Palmer, Supt. of Utilities. Report was accepted and placed on file In the clerk's office. Airport board report for the year 1966 was read, accepted and placed on file In the clerk's office.
