He was 58. Waldman stopped hearing cases in February when he became ill, court clerk Michael A. Kunz said. In April, Bush tapped Waldman for a spot on the 3rd Circuit, which handles appeals from Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and the Virgin Islands. Waldman's nomination had not yet come up for a confirmation vote.

The Pittsburgh native graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1966 and the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1969. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oren Arnold. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Judith O'Reilly and Patrick, of Phoenix, Arizona; Rosemary Detwiler and Jerry, of Centennial, Colorado; and Gail Adams and Richard, of La Jolla, California; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; four nephews and one niece. Adele was born on April 5, 1905, in Temple, Texas, and graduated from Rice University where she met her future husband. They raised their family in Phoenix, Arizona, and then retired in Leisure World, Laguna Hills, and Laguna Beach, California where they were active members of the Presbyterian Church.

Adele returned to Phoenix in 1990. She was a resident of Orangewood Retirement Community for the past ten and a member of the Palo Cristi Presbyterian Church. Adele was a Special Education Teacher in the Phoenix, School District. She loved the ocean, and her ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean off the Southern California coast. A private family memorial service will be held in Phoenix, Arizona, and a public memorial service in Laguna Beach, California at 2 PM on June 20, 2003, at the Presbyterian Church, 415 Forest Avenue, Laguna Beach, CA 92651.

Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ 85253, or the Laguna Beach Church at the address above, or to the Ocean Conservancy, 1725 De Sales Washington, DC Fred Berger, a longtime editor of film, TV shows LOS ANGELES Fred Berger, a film and TV editor who earned an Emmy in 1975 for his work on TV's MASH, died May 23. He was 94. His career spanned more than 50 years, starting in 1943 at Paramount Pictures, where he worked on a Hopalong Cassidy Western. He edited about 40 movies and was nominated for an Academy Award for working on The Hot Rock, a 1972 comedy starring Robert Redford and George Segal.

Berger was an original Editors Guild member and a founder and past president of the American Cinema Editors. Clarence (Chuck) W. Axsom, 87, of Tempe, Arizona, passed away May 21, 2003. He was born on Dignity March 23, 1916 in Cleveland, Virginia. Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary K.

Axsom; his two daughters, Sally Axsom Compton of Tempe, AZ and Kathy Axsom of Fresno, CA; six grandsons (Brion, Kenneth, Michael, Robert, Aaron and Seth) and one great-grandson (Austin). A Memorial Service to celebrate Chuck's life will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 31st at Lakeshore Mortuary, 1815 S. She was 53 and has lived in Tempe since February. Her family are planning services back in New Jersey and thank all at Tempe St. Luke's Hospital for their kindness. Cadwell, advertising exec, owner NEW YORK Franchellie Margaret Cadwell, who as owner of a national ad agency pushed for changes in how women appear in ads, died Sunday. She was 70. Cadwell, known as Frankie, owned and was one of the first women to own a national ad agency. She left that agency in the early 1960s to become the president of Cadwell Davis, a subsidiary of Compton Advertising. During more than three decades in advertising, Cadwell John A.

Memorial Services are May 31, Botimer Funeral Home, 1641 E. Jefferson Phoenix, AZ. Valma Tietjen Hakes passed away May 28, 2003 in Phoenix, Arizona, at the age of 88. She was born September 18, 1914, in Bluewater, New Mexico, the first of two children born to Alma Tietjen and Clarinda Whetten. Valma met Leo Benjamin Hakes in 1927, when the Daniel Edgar Hakes family moved from California to Bluewater.

They dated in high school, fell in love and were married December 19, 1933, in the Arizona Mesa Temple. The family lived in Alamogordo, New Mexico for 15 years and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1955. Valma spent lifetime serving in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including 9 years in the Mesa Temple with her husband. Valma was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister, Elva Roundy Lee, two brothers, Wesley Tietjen and Elbert Roundy, and a granddaughter, Lynette Hakes Christiansen. She is survived by 3 sisters, Florence Chapman (Loren), Rinda Bell, Retha Wengert (Maurice), 8 children, Glade (Janet), Glen (Josette), Gale (Glenda), LeAnna Jarman (Keith), Jane Johnson (Rulon), Karen Knight (Dennis), Dennis Lee (Sheri), ValRee, Meserve; 4 foster children, 36 grandchildren, and 83 great grandchildren.

There will be a viewing on Friday evening, May 30th, at 6:00 p.m., and at on Saturday morning in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Chapel at 3920 N. 44th Place. The funeral service will be heid in the same building at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 31st. The family expresses gratitude for Hospice of the Valley Coronado Home.

Makarov, cosmonaut, survived launch disaster MOSCOW Oleg Makarov, a Soviet-era cosmonaut who survived a harrowing launch accident in which the booster rocket carrying his space capsule exploded after liftoff, died of a heart attack at his home.

He was 70. After joining the cosmonaut team in the 1960, Makarov underwent training for a Soviet manned mission to the moon that never materialized. He made his first space flight in 1973 in a Soyuz capsule. During his next mission, in Kenneth Wayne Hammer, 54, of Scottsdale, AZ, died May 26, 2003 in Santa Fe, NM. He was born November 7, 1948 in Albuquerque, NM.

Kenneth worked in Sales for Sun Microsystems. He is survived by his wife, Carol; daughters, Ashley and Alicia and brother, Bill. Peoria Avenue, Peoria Az. Robert L. Smith, 61 of Phoenix died at home on May 6, 2003. He retired to Phoenix after serving in the U.S. Navy for twenty years, including serving during the Vietnam War.

His family is working on plans for a memorial service and asks for donations to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements under the direction of The Neptune Society in Tempe. AZ. died May 20. He was 86.

Sims, who was once a boxer, earned his stage name by dancing on sprinkled sand, a technique he pioneered while trying to mimic the effect of dancing in the rosin box before entering the ring. When he won a $5,000 National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1984, Sims used the money to teach dance to kids in a Harlem parking lot. Born Howard Sims in Fort Smith, Sims grew up in Los Angeles and came to New York in 1947. He danced at the Apollo for 17 years, acting as the "executioner" beginning in the mid-1950s. He left us far too soon. God took him home on April 24, 2003 in Scottsdale, AZ after a heart attack on Good Friday. He touched all that knew him and he will not be forgotten by those that loved him. He leaves his four sons: Bill (Susan), Bryan, Jef and Andrew; his daughter, Jessica; two grandchildren, Trevor and Jenna; his mother, Sophie and his sister, Carol. His father, William preceded him in death in 1981.

Cremation was in Scottsdale and funeral services will be private in California. We will always miss him and wonder what might have been. Nancy Brewer Temple, 71, of Phoenix, passed away May 30, Kenneth Keith Waller, 53, passed away May 26, 2003 in Phoenix, AZ. Kenneth was born on February 10, 1950, in Phoenix. Kenneth was a decoMarine who served in Vietnam.

He died in the little he loved with his wife Marti, whose love he cherished, at his side. He leaves his devoted son Khayyam, a daughter Kim and granddaughter Brittney, two brothers Vince and Gary. His large and loving family will miss him. We mourn your absence. We will love you always, and will see you later, cowboy.
