HARTLEY'S Ttiii May 2, 1968 Tlie Satt Saba News Our Community Refleeh Us fcy MAftSttA BEHHENS How many titties have emptied your car ash tray, because you were too lazy to wait until you got home to empty it of wait until a litter barrel was in sight? We are, all guilty of littering our streets 'and -nonfe of us have valid reasons dojng 801 Trash cans have bceh''placed on the sidewalks in town; litter barrels have been set up at road-side parks, but often times we find more trash around the barrel than in it.

The ortly sure way to make people stop littering is to make them realize that trashy surroundings reflect them. Until people realize that they are hurting themselves, litter bugs will remain America's number one public enemy. Trashy streets and highways can degrade a community, but dump grounds yards can as well. When one sees a lot full of wrecked cars, he automatically begins to the city he is about to enter to be a rather torn-down, dirty town. Would it not be possible to build a high fence around wrecking yards Mill Pond is a place to be proud of, but th city cannot pay for its upkeep if people vandalize it.

Little can done to keep our park in good condition, unless each citizen makes it'his'respon- sibility to report any known vandals. In order to have a neat, clean community, each one of us is going to have to do pur part in helping to make San Saba a town we can be proud of.
