Satellite Beach Chief Henderson Back on Duty Satellite Beach police Chief Jack Henderson officially returned to duty Thursday, the same day city officials were notified his suspension was lifted.

Henderson was suspended by Gov. Kirk after he was indicted by the Brevard County Grand Jury for alleged malpractice. "We got the notification in yesterday's mail," City Council Chairman Richard Herbine said Friday. Unofficial notification came Tuesday afternoon to Sen Beth Johnson, who passed the word along to Mayor Percy Hedgecock in time for him to announce it at a political forum that evening. The people at the forum applauded the news.

"He came back on board yesterday morning. While Hedgecock and Fellows tangle for the mayoral post, incumbents Richard Herbine and Reginald Leonard arc unopposed for colincil seats. Hedgecock, founder and first 'and only mayot of Satellite Beach, is still another term in the post. In his years in Brevard County, he has been, in addition to mayor, a Brevard County School Board member and contractor. He was also founder of the Astronaut Trail Association and has been active in city and county civic and political activities. lcdgecock is basing his campaign on the creation of an island park recreation cenicr along the west edge of the city. Fellows, 49, a newcomer to the Satellite Beach political scene, is giving incumbent Percy Hedgecock his first opposition since formation of the community 13 years ago. A retired Army master sergeant, Fellows recently took over direction of the Citizens Vigilance Committee when the founder was transferred out of the area.

He lives at 495 Cinnamon Drjve 'andhas a daughter attending Satellite High School. Fellows is basing his campaign on opposition to a proposed recreation center between Satellite Beach and the Banana River. He claims divelopment of the island will lead Jo the development of. ntarby islands by private investors who will use a city RICHARD HERBINE constructed bridge to the recreation island as access to tlie private areas. In addition to being head of Citizens Vigilance Committee, Fellows also is active in youth activities.

REGINALD LEONARD (Council) Reginald Leonard, in cumbant Satellite Beach is seeking reelection. A ,13 year resident of the community, heiias been on the council Tor 10 years. He is a member or the Satellite REGINALD LEONARD Beach Lions' Club, American Institute of. Aeronautics and Astronautics, American A'stronomical Society, YMCA, Friends of the Library, and attends the Methodist Church. He has been a qoach for the Little League baseball and touch' football teams and holds membership in the' Platinum Coast Swim Club and Satellite Beach Quarterback Club He retired from the.

Army Corps of Engineers as a lieutenant colonel. Leonard is interested in seeing the Island park developed Into a recreational area for the city. He, says it will be a real asset to the community. RICHARD HERBINE Council) Richard Herbine also seeks re election to the Satellite Beach Council. Herbine, 67, graduated from West P6int in 1924 and colonel.

He was a pilpt or.3 1 yearX He joined Pan Am "at" Cape Kennedy" in 1956, and worked there until 1958. He Has lived in Satellite Beach since 1958 and served on the council for 10 years. He is a member of the Cape Canaveral West Point Alumni Association. He is married and has a daughter teaching at Jefferson Junior High School. A chairman of the council and a member jf the finance committee, Herbine is interested in economical city Government and wants to get the most for each municipal dollar spent.

He presently serves as a member of the Brevard Library Board and served as chairman three times. He was foundLr of the Florida Seaside Art Show held annually in Indialantic.

Past president of the Civic Music Association of South Brevard and former executive director of the Association of Marine Explorers. He is a Tnember of Indian River Shellfish Association, Brevard Historical Society, Indian River Anthropological Society, Brevard Hospital Association and Brevard Mental Health Association. Horn in his platform said will continue to expand a i i a ion of Fifth Avenue, the beachfront and city park and will continue his effoits to produce a cultural and recreational complex on city owned beachfront prcperty. He says he work to acquire the moa efficient employes available to serve the city and work to remove the cliques and secret meetings from city government.government. L. GLENN LITTLEJOHN (Mayor) L. Glenn Littlejohn, 32, a candidate for mayor has served one term as a councilman and over five years on the Indialantic zoning boards. In his platform he calls for the planned ind controlled development of existing cbm mercial areas within the town, a return to sound fiscal planning, a roncerted drive for recreational facilities and a return to mature government working in harmony for planned progress. He is presently eastern division vice president of Daniels and Associates of Denver, Colo, and has lived in the area for over 14 years.

He was educated at Melbourne High School and the Citadel, Charleston, SC. He worked, for the Boeing Co. at Cape Kennedy for 8V4 years, and entered the cablevision industry about four years ago Littlejohn is married and has three children, HAROLD BALZER (Mayor) Having served as councilman from 196668 Harold Balzer is now seeking the, position of mayor. Sharp will be running on the record established by the police and fire department, the town, and favors close cooperation between Indialantic and Melbourne Beach police departments.

He desires to keep the predominanately residential nature of the town with a strong belief in law and order. He is married and has six children. WILLIAM MAYERS (Council) William F. Mayers, a candidate for election to the Indialantic Town Council retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1964 and the next" year established residence in Indialantic.

He is employed in' the system at Patrick AFB as an authorization and allowance monitor. He has served as a criminal investigator with the army CID and supervised both military police" and air police law enforcement activities. In his platform, Mayers advocates the initiating and developing of an effective recreation and community proeram, tn include nlans for a civic center. He will work to maintain an effective law enforcement apencv with crime prevention a maior effort, and to improve management procedures in the administration of city business. He will publicize prior to council meetings, the issues of city business that will be acted upon at meetings.

As a councilman Mead says he will urge and support sale of the Bahama Beach Club property to a nationally recognized motel restaurant chain, and will put pressure on for construction of a high rise four lane bridge connecting Indialantic with the mainland. He will encourage recrea tional needs of youngsters thorough financial support of volunteer organized recreational groups. He will carefully evaluate expenditures and insure proper safeguard of municipal funds, he says. He will advocate making idle tax money, accumulate at a higher rate of intere'st than the present 4.5 per cent.

He will also encourage new business through logical zoning, planning and beautifica tion programs. TIMOTHY DERATANY (Council) Timothy Deratany, 30, has been a resident of Indialantic for more than five years, and a South Brevard resident for 22 years. He is owner of business and rental property on Fifth Avenue, and operates Tim's Barber Shop; In his platform, Deratany calls for development of an exclusive shopping district on Fifth Avenue, but would work to prevent creeping commercialism i i residential areas. He would urge adequate funding and city support for a recreational program. would also work for harmony and cooperation in city government.

Deratany is married and has two children, a boy and a girl. JOHN HARRIS (Council) John A. E. Harris, 45, a candidate Indialantic Council has been a resident of 'the community for over two years. Born in Philadelphia, he attended Lehigh and McGill Universities and was employed for manv years in thetrust department of the First Trust.

and Deposit Co. Syracuse, N.Y. in 1954. Harris is currently serving on the Indialantic town committee. Harris says he has a desire to promote business within the present business area i Indialantic, but hopes to be able to retain the residential atmosphere of the area.

Indialantic has great potential, Harris said, "and every effort should be made to take advantage of it. would like to see a strong merchants association formed. A Harris also plans to institute what he hopes will become a self perpetuating fund, derived from the incom? present idle town' money for the purpose, of beautification, recreation and general town improvement 1 r4 1".
