Black, 83, of Prescott Arizona, passed away at home on March 23, 2002.

He was born on July 14, 1918 in Bedford, Indiana to James N. and Francis Edna Fish Black. As a young man, he joined the Air Force, trained in Arizona, and served in WWII and the Korean War (flight instructor), reaching the rank of captain. He married Leah J. Spencer and together they had three children in Indiana.

Later, he moved to Tempe, Arizona, where he married Flora M. Bateman, had one child and became the stepfather of three children. For many years, he worked as an automotive jobber and manufacturer's representative, and served in leadership roles in various service and professional organizations. In 1988, he moved his family to Prescott, where he became a realtor, member of the Lions Club, and participant in the LDS Copper Basin Ward. He lovingly cared for Flora until she passed away in 1993.

He remained cheerful, active, and independent until the end. He is survived by his daughter Judith Woods; his sons Jeremy (Jerry), Daniel, and James Black; his stepchildren Robert and Stanton Curry and Julie Bever; and his grandchildren April, Alissa, Zachary, Torri, Robert, Adrienne, Tara, Michael, and Alex. Visitation at 10:30 a.m. and Services at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 28, 2002 at the LDS Church at 1001 Ruth Street, Prescott. Arizona Ruffner Wakelin Funeral Home.

Donald John Braun, 75, died at his home in Phoenix on March 23, 2002. Born February 24, 1927 in Wooster, Ohio, he served honorably in the US Navy and, in 1948, married Dorothy McFadden in Akron, Ohio. Don and his family moved to Arizona in 1961. In February, 1991, he retired from Perigee Metal Spinning after 28 successful years. Hardworking, honest and compassionate, Don will be remembered as devoted husband, caring father and loyal friend.

He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; daughters Sue Ann and Mary; sons Paul, David and Terry: eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter, as well as his brother James and sister Kathleen. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, in the chapel at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 3140 N. Sist Avenue. 85374-3903. Mary Louise Brown, 79, of Tempe, passed away Saturday evening, March 23 in Desert Samaritan Care Center. An Arizona resident since the carly Mary Lou was well known for her accomplishments in aviation, as well as for her church and social activities. She had a long career with the U.S. Geological Survey, during which she piloted a variety of aircraft ranging from helicopters to military training jets on remote sensing projects for scientific research.

She flew many missions in the arctic regions of Alaska and Canada. Following her government service, she continued her involvement in scientific research with two private consulting firms, HydroData and Hydo-Analysis, in which she WitS a partner. Mary Lou was long-time member of the First Congregational Church of Tempe. She was active in the affairs and outreach programs of the church and also participated in the 99 (association of women aviators), Whirly Girls (association of women helicopter pilots), and did volunteer work for the Meals on Wheels program. She also spoke to variety of civic and professional organizations about her adventures in aviation.

Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday March 27 at the First Congregational Church of Tempe. Mary Lou is survived by a daughter, Marjorie A. Steffen, of Farmington, NM and a son, Steven P. Brown, of Dallas, TX. as well as by five grandchildren.

Contributions in her name may be sent to Meals on Wheels or the 99's Scholarship Program. Arrangements are with Carr Tenney Mortuary Joseph L. Bunch, 90, passed away March 22, 2002 in Gilbert, Arizona. He was born in Phoenix, Arizona Territory in 1911 and had been living in Page, Arizona for the past fourteen years. He was a graduate of Phoenix Union High School and Arizona State Teacher's College, now ASU.

He retired from the State of Arizona, Income Tax Division in 1976 as an auditor supervisor. He remained active in the Area Council for Aging. 48th St, Phoenix, AZ. Agnes Rose Davis, after some 95 years Agnes has been laid to rest. She was the wife of Harry A. Davis an Arizonian Territorial member for some 57 years. The Great Depression of the carly 30s had left its mark on her and she vowed never again would she live in such dire straits.

Her ability to handle the family's money management during the carly formative years after marriage was remarkable. She was a Registered Nurse, a newspaper proofreader, a truck driver for a Navy air station, a inventory clerk for Naval supply station, and a great watchdog over the family fortunes. She had no children nor did she want some. She was loving wife, who relished travel and rock hounding all over the Western United States and Canada with her husband. She was an day for weeks on end.

She donated avid reader, often reading two novels great mystery book collection to the wishes no funeral or other rememNorthern University at Flagstaff. She a brances of her life other than what history might care to dictate. Charity was her principal beneficiary. Donald W. Edwards, born May 14, 1922.

He was the widower of Margaret Edwards. He is survived by three children. Terri Rosenstein, Tom Edwards, and Trudi Oteri. He has eight grandchildren. Derrick Rosenstein, Erica Crotty, Mark Rosenstein, Heather Rosenstein, Tracy Lambert, Lynn Dalman, Cara Oteri, and Jason Oteri.

He has two great Casey Hinger and Ashley Oteri. Gloria Ann Ertz, 70, passed away on March 21, 2002. Gloria was born on August 23, 1931 in Reading, Pennsylvania. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lewis Elsie Spencer.

Gloria is survived by her husband, Jack; and her four sons; Mike Ertz of Daytona Beach. Peter Grey Fattalch, 20, of Paradise Valley, passed away on March 24, 2002. Born in Phoenix, AZ, he was a graduate of Chaparral High School and student at the Scottsdale Culinary Institute. He is survived by his father, Dr. John B. Fattalch: mother, Crystol Fattalch; sisters, Kim, Stacy, Tamy, Nena, Julie, Jami, and Deborah; brothers, Mike, Kip, David, Peter, Flip, Tom, and Bubba; nephew, Sam; and many other nieces and nephews.

Private family services have been planned. Green Acres Mortuary handled arrangements. Mrs Verna Mae Douglas-Hairston, age 79, of Phoenix, died March 22, 2002. A native of Pine Bluff, AR and former resident of Pontiac, MI. Verna was retired as a Supervisor of Audit from the Internal Revenue Service, the first African-American to serve in that position in Michigan.

While in Pontiac she was active in many community and civic organizations. Verna was member of Trinity Baptist Church and later Macedonia Baptist of Pontiac where she served in several positions. Upon moving to Phoenix in 1978, she united with the First Institutional Baptist Church where she served as a Trustece and Assistant Finance Secretary to name a few of her duties. She is survived by her husband; Ernest. One son; Clarence E.

Mrs. Kaufman was resident of Scottsdale, AZ and Orleans, MA. formerly of Lincoln, MA and Belmont, MA. Mrs. Kaufman was born in Englewood, New Jersey to Dr.

Herman and Esther (Strauss) Halpern. She was a graduate of Beaver College PA. class of 1945. She majored in Early Childhood Education, training to be a teacher. Her job in life was as a helpmate to her husband, Bert.

She was totally devoted to her husband and family, raising a traditional family. She was an avid collector, very organized and methodical. She loved the summer lifestyle, being member of the Orleans Yacht Club for 42 years. She was the beloved wife of Earle B. "Bert" Kaufman, the loving mother of drew Michele Kaufman of Lake Forest, IL, Donald Pamela Kaufman of Tustin, CA and Ellen Dr.

James Feldman of Rockville, MD. She is survived by her eleven grandchildren, and was the dear sister of the late Stanley Halpern: Rabbi Deanna Douglas officiated. Burial was in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to a charity of one's choice. Helen W.

Kaufman, 1942-2002. passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2002 in her sleep. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Richard Wohl of Phoenix; her daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and Jeremy Blachman, and her two grandchildren, Abby and Ben Blachman of Houston, Texas. Known as to all who knew and loved her, she was sensitive and charming woman who appreciated life's simple pleasures: working crossword puzzles, strolling in the park, conversations with friends over a cup of her beloved coffee, and playing with her brother's bird.

She was an optimist, always looking for the good in others. She was an accomplished artist and painter, could tell a joke better than most comedians. She will be bered always for her sensitivity, deep caring, and appreciation for all things of beauty. Funeral services and interment were held Monday, March 25th in Phoenix. Schenk of Atlanta, Georgia, Thomas H. Ladd of Phoenix Arizona, Peter D. Ladd of Bryan, Ohio, Susan M. Ladd of Denver, Colorado, John M. Ladd of Kihei, Hawaii and many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Frank served in the Army from 1944 to 1945 and owned and operated his own service stations in Birmingham Michigan before moving to Arizona in 1960. Frank retired from the postal service in 1986 after 27 years of service. Per Frank's wishes, there will be no formal service. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Frank's name to the Arizona State Veteran's Home or a charity of choice. John J. Lance, 79, of Phoenix Arizona, passed away March 22, 2002. He was born in Wadsworth, Ohio and served in the navy during WWII. After the service, John attended Bowling Green State University and married Barbara Willyard on August 15, 1947. After graduation, John and Barbara moved to Phoenix, where they raised three sons.

John was in the lumber business for 35 years, retiring from Heldt Lumber in 1987. He was an avid wood worker, making frames for Barbara's artwork and crafting treasured furniture and toys. John was predeceased by his son Randall. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sons Gary (Michelle) and Russell (Jane); four grandchildren and brothers Charles and James. A memorial service will be held at 2.00 PM Thursday, March 28th at Faith United Methodist Church, 8640 N.

Chick was the son of Angelo and Mary Lavinia of Stowe, Pennsylvania, born on May 23, 1925. He is preceded in death by his parents. Chick has lived in Arizona for the past 13 years. Chick worked as a machinist and a tool and die maker in the general machine parts industry, During World War If he served as Seche in the navy. Chick is survived by his wife Mary, daughters Veronica Jenschke, and Laura Russo both of Avondale, a brother Richard Lavinia of Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and sister Marie Hartenstine of Pennsylvania, 5 grandchildren, and 3 greatgrandchildren.

A visitation will be one Wednesday, March 27 from at the Valley West Funeral Chapel, 926 S. Litchfield Goodyear. A Funeral Mass will be at 10am, Wednesday, March 27 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 447 S. Litchfield Litchfield Park.

Matuschka, 62, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 in Chandler following a sudden illness. He was born September 15, 1939 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to the late Willard Alice (Deppeiss) Matuschka. He moved to Arizona in October of 2001. He is survived by his wife: Beverly Matuschka: sons: Bill (Kathy), Dan, John (Sherry); Daughters: Angela (Brett) Berger. Mayville was a retired recordkeeper for the Scottsdale School District at Coronado High and Saguaro High Schools. She was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota on January 21, 1923.
