He was a retired new home salesman from Knoell-Shea Continental Homes. Chapin was born on September 24, 1923 in Middleport, N.Y., the second of two children born to Walter and Dorothy Chapin. He graduated from Avon H.S. in New York in 1941, and briefly attended Rochester Inst, of Tech. while working at Kodak. He served in the Army Air Corps, European Theater, as a SSgt.

radar navigator and instructor from 1943-45. Following WWII, he obtained his BSEE from Clarkson University ('48) and his MSEE from California Institute of Technology ('49). Don worked as a research and development engineer at Taylor Instruments (1949-58) and Stromberg-Carlson (1958-59) before moving to Arizona to join Airesearch Mfg. He worked there as a senior development engineer from 1959-86 and frequently consulted with the company following his retirement. Don is survived by his wife, Jeanne, and three children, Joanne Birch (Bill), Janet Kriss (Don), and Jon Scott Chapin, and four grandchildren (Leah and Joel Kriss, Christina and Rebecca Birch).

Don and Jeanne were married in 1945 and enjoyed 55 years of marriage. He was preceded in death by his brother, Duane Chapin. Among his many honors and accomplishments include graduating Magna Cum Laude, National Honor Society, numerous engineering patents and technical papers in fluidics and pneumatics, Engineer of the Year recognition from Airesearch ('67), President of the Instrument Society of America, and Scout Master Troop 268. He was a gifted craftsman, artist and inventor. He enjoyed sailing, scuba diving, gold panning, snow skiing, traveling, gardening, photography, the outdoors and his family.

Gertrude, Dom, and their three daughters were active in many Masonic organizations in Phoenix. Gertrude was a 50-year member of Laurel Chapter 30 Ol-S; she was a Past High Priestess of Sphinx Court 65, Ladies Oriental Shrine; a member of Qadesh Temple 35, Daughters of the Nile; a past Mother Advisor of Wingar Assembly 21, Order of Rainbow for Girls; and had received the Grand Cross of Color. Gertrude was the Office Manager and Bookkeeper for Fogelson Pharmacy for 35 years in Phoenix.

Gertrude resided in the Skilled Care of the Arizona Eastern Star Retirement Center for the past two years and was the Residential Committee President. She is survived by her daughters: Nancy Pr Raymond) Tobey, Suzanne (Avan) Edwards, and Trudy fl-eon) Mullins; grandchildren: Ronnie, Brett, Kathie, Raymond, Dom, Brad, Terry Ie and Christina; great grandchildren: Taire, Travis and Kyle.
