Keith Kendrick, a behavioral scientist at the British govern-. ment-funded Babraham Institute in Cambridge, describes in a recent issue of the science jour- nal Nature how he allowed newborn lambs to be fostered by female goats and, likewise, gave I newborn kids to be fostered by ewes. Kendrick and his team chose sheep and goats because, like humans, they form close bonds with their offspring and can recognize each other by facial characteristics, again like humans. The results, he believes, could also be applied to humans.

The scientists discovered that the male lambs and kids developed a lifelong preference for females of the opposite species. But the female lambs and kids did not share a biological preference for the male animals that looked like their fathers. "The fact that male offspring are affected more than females, and apparently for life, is evidence that they are indeed more potently' influenced by their mothers," Kendrick concluded. "This indirectly supports Freud's concept of the Oedipus complex." Mexico, protecting certain frequencies for future stations on the border, he says. Genuit's fill-in has been the station's new music director-assistant program director, Greg Morgan. In addition, Sharpe said the station presented the Children Cancer Center at Phoenix Children's Hospital with a check for $39,000 the proceeds of a CD sale last year.

KFNN-AM (1510) "Financial Newsradio" puts on its sixth annual Financial Fest from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Scottsdale Embassy Suites, Scottsdale and Chaparral roads. Ron Cohen, GM and president of the station, says the fest will feature the usual exhibitors from the financial world, plus an added feature: a petition to Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

According to Cohen, the petition addresses a situation that requires KFNN to turn its power down at sundown a big problem during the cooler months. The requirement comes from a 1982 treaty with for close to three hours, said Keith Mason Goodwill's executive director. He said the radio station "misrepresented the facts" by apparently saying that Goodwill does not serve the homeless. "I have very strong feelings about making gains at the expense of charitable organizations," Mason said. "This shows a complete lack of integrity on their part" Goodwill declined the offer after a staff member expressed reservations about allying with KPTY because of the nature of the station, which reaches young listeners with songs and on-air references to sex, drugs and violence.

"We're a conservative organization Mason explained. Waters, in his letter to Molnar, of- fered a "heartfelt apology" to Goodr will's receptionist, who took the offensive calls, and to Molnar "for any frustrations you incurred." The calls followed Goodwill's decision not to participate in the station's blanket drive for the homeless and subsequent remarks by a deejay on the station. On Thursday morning, station general manager Mark Waters sent a letter of apology to Goodwill's vice president of communications, Jean Molnar. The station had been promoting the "Blanket Party" at two drive-in theaters as a benefit for Goodwill without the organization's final approval. The promotion enables two free admissions to the Glendale 9 Drive-In on Monday and the Scottsdale 6 Drive-In on Tuesday in exchange for a blanket that will be donated to help the homeless.

The station hopes to accumulate 1,039 blankets.
