Remote EntryBut with Alarm, Hometink System. 1 By Mark Zuckerman The Arizona Republic If the Sahuaros are indeed going to achieve status in the USISL next season by winning the D3 Pro League championship this year, they will likely look at Saturday night's second-round playoff game as the turning point in making their dream a reality. Sparked by a loud hometown crowd of 1,000 at Scottsdale Stadium, the Sahuaros defeated the Stanislaus County Cruisers, 2-1, on a tiebreaking goal by Harold Calvo in the game's 85th minute. "It's almost like winning a championship," said playercoach Mate KosuL "With this stadium and this crowd support, I don't think we can lose." For a few tense minutes late in the game, it seemed possible the Sahuaros could lose.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute on a goal by Alex Pogman, the Sahuaros turned to their defense to win the game. But a Cruisers offense that threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Sahuaros all night, finally broke through with II minutes to go. Stanislaus County forward Mike Pepe's attempted bicycle kick bounced off a Sahuaros defender right to Cruisers midfielder Kurt Cox. Cox fired the ball into the net to tie the game at 1, threatening overtime. With little time remaining, the Sahuaros decided not to run out the clock and instead cranked up the offense again.

"With six minutes left, we thought, 'Oh, we're going to Calvo said. "But then we just said, 'Let's do it. We've got nothing to One minute later, Calvo hit pay dirt with a brilliant piece of footwork. Taking a pass from Kenny Wright, Calvo, with his back to the goal, deflected the ball off the side of his foot and found the net for the winner. "1 saw the ball spring in the air, and 1 just flicked it with my foot over (goalkeeper Luis Ferreira)," ARIZONA DIGEST 1 I lW amir fiAinan t- I LmNU HUVLZti mmm 'Sale Ends 83098 QIIUPOORI TOOL BOX CO Phoenix 263-5769 Mesa 844-0042 Scottsdale jf i-Z ,1 T.
