At the top of the stairs, Ralph became mute and his mouth opened wide. Surprisingly, he grabbed my hand and held on tightly as we walked down the steps onto the sand. Hamish, of course, went nuts, dashing back and forth, barking, and running in and out of the water. But Ralph just stared.
