WHEAT MARKET. Growers Sell More Freely. SHORT SELLERS COVER. The Sydney wheat market was firmer yesterday, due to a further advance in options in the oversea markets, particularly in North America. With offers of per bushel net at the nearer stations, however, growers commenced to offer rather freely, and as the demand was quiet, prompt silo parcels lost an advance of closing at the level of the previous afternoon.

Increases in the prices of parcels for delivery during the remainder of the month were maintained as the result of a good inquiry by short sellers who were anxious to cover. August parcels were much Armer. Millers bought small lots for immediate requirements. Shippers were idle. At the opening of the market, there were sales of silo grain for immediate delivery at per bushel, March basis, or with the storage charge added.

Later, business was done at and towards the close at For July parcels, a number of buyers paid and against Tuesday's levels of and August parcels advanced to an increase of in two days. An important review of the economics of the Australian glassmaking industry will be undertaken by the Federal Cabinet when it considers a report by the Tariff Board on an application for greater protection for the Australian cut -glass industry. Because of concessions given to Belgium and Czechoslovakia in recent trade arrangements, the production of cut glassware in Australia is virtually suspended, and during the last sitting of the Federal Parliament the' Ministry was pressed to take action to obtain the re-employment of operatives formerly engaged in the industry. It was learned to-day that several Ministers take the view that the Government, in dealing with the report on cut glassware, should consider the position of the Industry A5 whole. Information which has reached the Cabinet shows that while the cut-glass section been closed down as unprofitable, other sections of the industry are making substantial profits. 1'his situation is regarded as unsatisfactory, and the Cabinet is likely to take the view that the industry should take a share in meeting the cost of establishing new sections.

Accordirgly, it is possible that a general of protection with a view to readjusting the economics of the various sections of the glass industry will be undertaken. TRAINING OF PRINTERS. Prizes Presented. STUDENTS AT TECHNICAL COLLEGE. Prizes and certificates won by students in the printing department of the Sydney Technical College during the past year were presented by the president of the Master Printers' and Allied Trades' Association, Mr.

R. Vernon, at the college last night. In an address to the students, the principal of the college, Mr. H. J.

Swain, congratulated them on their achievements. Of the 438 students who sat for examinations during 1937, he said, 339 had passed, including five from the "Sydney Morning Herald." There were 542 students attending oral classes and 130 taking the correspondence courses. The capacity of the department was being taxed, he said, and during the past year it was necessary to install new equipment at a cost of 2,300. The Superintendent of Technical Education, Mr. A.

W. Hicks, urged the students to strive to maintain the high standard which had been achieved in the Australian printing industry. Some employees felt that they could give apprentices all the practical work they needed in their own works, he said, but it was more widely believed that the Technical College training gave to the student a full range of training. medal and special prize winners McCaughan, W.
