LAY December all ye weary and wayworn travelers, greeting: Harkon to the voice of wisdom! When you arrive at the town of Laytonville, turn your tired horse's head in tho direction of Dan Waldron's feed stable, where Knierson, the hostler, will take him in charge, feed him the choicest of hay and grain, and rub him down, then bed him with the softest of straw.

Having done this, enter into the lion's den, where Daniel will concoct for you tho most wonderful drink that you ever drank; that will make your appetite keener (if that could be done after traveling over these roads), after which, when you hear the sweet tones of the supper bell ringing, to the diuingroom go, where you will find the best the market frird crisp and brown, essences of last summer's fruits for dessert, and drinks fit for the gods, then with a toothpick and cigar enter again into the lion's den, where Daniel will wax you wnrni at a gome of billiards or any other game you propose, so when i morning comes you will leave I with reluctance, and ever after you will dwell in praise on the hospitality of mine host, tlie enterprising, the happy, the gay, tho uncouth, the inimitable Daniel Waldrou. News was received last week of the death of Mrs. D. C. Blair at her daughter's home in Stockton.

The news came as a severe shock, for it had not been but a few months ago that Mr. and Mrs. Blair paid a visit to this community. It was their custom since they left to visit annually friends and relatives here and the scenes of their earlier life. After a residence of nearly 30 years, Mrs.

Blair was wellknown in this and adjacent communities. She was of a kind and gentle disposition, and her traits were those that will be remembered by many, of all that is noble, true and beautiful in womanhood. She leaves a husband and several children and grandchildren to mourn her loss. tj. CU.MUKU.
