Start Of Sewer Work Gets Okay LEXINGTON The Davidson County Board of Commissioners set the wheels in motion today on the first phase of a countywide sewer system. Meeting in special session here, the commissioners voted to begin work on phase one of the project. The county's share of the cost of this first phase will be $2.2. million. Basically, phase one involves construction of two waste water treatment plants, one on Abbotts Creek and on Muddy Creek-Fryes Creek.

This first phase will be the most expensive part of the sewer program, costing a total of $11.5 million. The money not contributed by the county for phase one will come from recently passed state clean-water bonds and federal grants. For its share of the cost, the county will conduct a bond referendum on an as yet undetermined date. The entire sewer program will be contingent upon passage of the bond referendum.
