The 13-year-old student will leave heT tiny Riverina town (population 936) at Christmas and come to Sydney to commence the four-year plan which is expected to put her among the world's best.

Inexperience and nervousness cost Evonne the 1963 State under-13 title on the Davis Cup court at White City before her biggest crowd. At her next visit in January last year Evonne won the N.S.W. hardcourt under-13 singles at Canterbury and with her new Sydney "sister" Patricia Edwards, also collected the doubles title. This year she had to compete out of her age as there is no State under-14 event.

She had no trouble conceding the age and in January won the N.S.W. hardcourt under-15 singles and doubles at Canterbury. She made it eight N.S.W. titles in a row when she also won the N.S.W. lawn under-15 singles and doubles at White City last month.

Evonne, a perfect strokemaker and court tactician, has already won eight consecutive State hardcourt and lawn championships, and is a better prospect than Margaret Smith was at the samfe age. She will become a member of the family i ever there was a i scooter that suited the fair sex its the ove 19 6 5 Lambretta Cento the baby of that popular two-stroke stable. The Cento is light and lovely and its lOOcc. are powerful enough to take a girl wherever she wants to go. When I drove the Cento over my 15 miles North Harbour suburbs' test route this week I found I had to attack most hills in second gear and often drop to first to make the grade.

But my 11.5 stone was a large load for the 1761b scooter. A lightweight rider would have no trouble. A swinging Sax Country and Western Mersey Folk Ragtime Beat or Beethoven's Spring Sonata. Whatever your kind of music, if crisper and clearer even at full volume on this brilliant new Kriesler Portable, the Kriesler Dual Power 8. Dance to it, laze to it.

It's a rave-about, move-about model that plays as a battery portable or plugs into any power point. Makes merry anywhere. Both hand and foot brake were extremely effective, stopping the scooter from 30 m.p.h. within 70 feet. There was little tyre squeal and skid.

I took the Cento up to 40 m.p.h. on the straight stretches but found the body work vibrated unpleasantly at this speed. Since the machine had done only 119 miles when I started the test, its newness could explain the vibration. The scooter was too new to stretch to the 47 m.p.h. maximum speed.

If you are a long-legged scooter rider take care when you use the foot brake on the Cento. You could strike the The Cento accent is on comfort and economy. Helical springs on both front and rear wheels and hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear give a smooth ride over bumpy roads. The theoretical petrol consumption of 150 miles to the gallon is an attractive economy point. The actual consumption depends on how heavy the individual rider is with the accelerater.

On the road the Cento performed well, racing through the three gears from a standing start to 30 m.p.h. in 13 seconds. First gear accelerated to 18 m.p.h. in four seconds and reached 26 m.p.h. in 10 seconds from a standing start.
