"CBS was to announce Monday that Kuralt will be the host of Remember, which will have longtime mem around the country. Kuralt was also the founding anchor of CBS' Sunday" Morning when it was launched in 1979; he remained with the show for 15 years. Kuralt will become the latest familiar CBS News name to join CBS Eye on People, a reality-based cable channel that will focus on personalities and human-interest stories. Paula Zahn, Jose Diaz-Balart, Jane Robelot, Mark McEwen, Anthony Mason, Peter Van Zandt, the 60 Minutes team, John Roberts and Russ Mitchell have all signed on for major roles in the 14 original programs being produced by CBS News for the network.

Former ABC World News Now anchor Thalia Assuras has also been hired to anchor a program. CBS Eye on People is scheduled to debut March 31. The channel is believed to be launching in 3.5 million cable households, but CBS Cable has yet to announce any deals with system operators. Kuralt bers of the CBS News talent roster reliving major stories they covered. For example, one planned segment will include correspondents Ed Bradley and Bob Simon recalling their coverage of the fall of Saigon.

Kuralt, 62, ended his 37-year career at the network in May 1994.. But after pressure from the national NAACP, the coalition is taking a few steps backward in its attack. Brotherhood Crusade president Danny Bakewell said that instead of moving ahead with calling for meetings at the networks, the groups now want to do more research and organize more efficiently with the national NAACP, before proceeding with their campaign. Walker: Channel 5 adds to morning news lineup Laurie Raymond, former weekend anchor at Tucson's KGUN-TV, will host for Channel 5, joined by Ron Meritt, the station's current morning and midday weather guy. Also Monday, Channel 5's news department will start providing the local news cut-ins for Cox Communications' CNN Headline News feed, cable Channel 38 in most of the Valley. The cut-ins will come five times a day on weekdays, thrice daily on weekends. According to a Cox spokesman, Channel 10 (KSAZ) has done the cut-ins since 1991.
