Jim Hanemaayer, KHEP's general manager, expects to maintain an edge over Q96, even if his station's audience is older (35-plus) and more conservative. "Not only do we do it live, but we d) it better," Hanemaayer said. The day after the Nov. 5 election, KHEP had Gov. Fife Symington on its morning show to talk about the passage of Proposition 201, the initiative that requires Arizona to negotiate gaming compacts with Indian communities that don't have one.

But Q96 plans to go further. It wants to compete with the secular news-talk stations, KTAR-AM (620) and KFYI-AM (910). Q96's general manager, Mike Hamilton, left another popular Christian talk-radio station (KRDS-AM, 1 190) to join Salem Communications and help the fledgling Q96. "We're going to try to be a source for people who want to make a difference in their communities," Hamilton said, meaning that the station plans to participate in a range of volunteer efforts, from food banks to medical care for the poor. Kimmel, who serves on the boards of the Family Life Table and Generations ministries, two national Christian groups, says he hopes talk radio in the Valley can start making a difference.

"We have this huge think tank with cars with phones in them driving around. The potential for new ideas to old problems is huge," he said. GRAHAM: Our (daughter is struggling the question of whether to have an abortion. She is single and in no position to take care of a child (nor are we), but we dislike abor- tion.

What can we tell her? S.F. DEAR S.F.: I know the tempta. tion to rid herself of this problem (as she sees it) through an abortion must be strong to your daughter. Many people take that road, think-" ing it is the easy way out. I sincerely hope she will not give' in to the temptation to end the life of the child who is growing within her.

I know our society by and large denies that a fetus is also a human being, but God's word teaches us otherwise. Life is sacred because it is from God, and that includes the unborn. God told Jeremiah, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart. (Jeremiah Instead, I hope you will encour-" age your daughter to bear this child! Although it may be impossible for her to give this child the kind of home he or she needs, there are many couples who cannot have children of their own and yearn to adopt. Her doctor can point her agencies that can help.

Beyond that, I hope you will encourage your daughter to open her heart to Christ. She is at a cross- roads: Will she continue living the' way she has, or will she turn to God and follow his perfect way? My prayer is that this experience will cause her to see her need of Christ and open her life to his forgiveness and love. Write to Billy Graham at Tribune Media Services, 435 N.
