They hope someone anurse, a Teacher, a neighbor or even the girl herself will read stories about the disappearance of Jacqueline Vasquez and wonder if they unwittingly encountered the child who was abducted as an infant from an Avondale swap meet in 2001.

Friday marked the 10th anniversary of her disappearance. "We have not received any leads in this case in some time. In almost two years now," said Det. Rueben Gonzales, a spokesman for the Avondale Police Department. Police are investigating the cold, but ongoing, case with the FBI, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Poly Klaas Foundation and private SOUTHWEST GOLF CARS Sales, Service, Parts Accessories Investigation Interviews with swap-meet visitors led police to a person of interest who has never been found.

Gonzales said although it's difficult to compare cases with other missing children, Jacqueline's abduction does not appear to be sexually motivated as with older chil-, dren who are sometimes hurt, molested or killed by abductors. Lost Girl Two composite sketches of Jacqueline at ages 6 and 10 depict two different little girls. Both have light brown skin, dark hair and dark brown eyes, but the faces on the picture are a shot in the dark; mixed and patched together from pieces of her family. "It does make it difficult in a sense," Gonzales said. "Age progression is a rendering of what she might look like." But if she is alive, police hope that she is at an age where she can begin to question whoever might have raised her.

For now, police hope media attention will bring new leads to the case and stir public interest. "Hopefully, someone will come forward and tell us something," Gonzales said. Anybody who has seen a girl that matches the description or has any other information regarding this case is asked to call the Avondale Police Department at 623-333-7001 or silent witness at 480-WITNESS. The composite combines similar characteristics shared by her mother, father and siblings. "The one thing that was unique about Jacqueline, and we dont have a photograph of it, is the heart-shaped birthmark on her right upper arm," Gonzales said. "Birthmarks don't just go away." May 6, 2001 Olivia Castenada, then 18, was dropped off at a swap meet near Maricopa County 85 and El Mirage Road by her husband, Jorge Vasquez, then 21. Castenada stopped to use a port-a-john. She had Jacqueline, 4 months old, and her other daughter, 2-y ear-old Nayeli, in tow.

Police reports said Castenada placed a car seat carrying Jacqueline just outside the port-a-john and went in with her older daughter; she came out moments later and Jacqueline was missing, Gonzales said. The family combed the swap meet looking for the baby and alerted police after several minutes.
