SECTION UA FOOTBALL Running back Keola Antolin adds 13 pounds of muscle in the off-season so he can withstand the punishment. C7 SATURDAY, 8.6.201 1 THE ARIZONA REPUBLIC SPORTS.AZCENTRAL.COM 1912-2012 Arizona's Centennial Rattlers have something to prove ArenaBowl with to beat Chicago (14-5). All week at practice, coach Kevin Guy preached "60 minutes" to his players. On May 14, the Rattlers were pretty sharp for 59 minutes. Then, in the final 50 seconds, Chicago scored 10 unanswered points and rolled out of Phoenix a 50-49 winner.

The Rattlers (17-2) have not lost since then. "We have to play a complete game," Guy said. His contract at Arizona State runs through the 2012 season not, as many believe, through the. end of this season. So, Vice President for Athletics Lisa Love doesn't have to make a decision on Erickson's future when the season ends in December or January, if all goes well.

But consider this: What must Erickson do to receive a contract extension? Win eight games? Nine? Just play in a bowl game? So far, talk about Erickson's contract has centered on whether he'll even be around after this season. Of course, there's good reason for that. ASU is 15-21 the past three years. It hasn't been to a bowl game since 2007. Throw in the fact that Erickson is 64 years old, and, well, he's going to pop up on all those hot-seat lists.

Obviously, if the Sun Devils fail to reach a bowl game for a fourth year in a row, Erickson will be unemployed. But what if ASU turns it around this year? What if it fulfills its preseason promise as a possible Top 25 team? Does one solid season warrant Erickson a few more years in charge? "There's nobody that wants to win more than me, and we will," Erickson said at ASU's media day. "I got a lot of pride in what I do. I'm going to coach for as long as I can." Love isn't about to saddle Erickson with an ultimatum, nor should she. It wouldn't do her, Erickson or the program any good.

The Dodgers offense was too much for Collmenter in the third. Dee Gordon led off with a bunt that third baseman Ryan Roberts decided to let roll in hopes that it would stray into foul territory. But the ball remained fair, and once on base, Gordon stole second, then scored when Casey Blake lined See D-BACKS, Page C6 with the acquisition of Jason Marquis.

Instead, Collmenter issued a near-replica performance of his previous outing against the Dodgers, who recorded a six-run third inning en route to a 7-4 victory in front of 27,215 at Chase Field. With the loss, the Diamondbacks remained half-game behind the Giants in the NL West. Collmenter struggled from the onset, giving up two singles and a walk in the first. After getting roughed up by the Los Angeles Dodgers in his previous outing, Diamondbacks starter Josh Collmenter encountered the division rival again Friday night to open a 10- CARDINALS Camping with brothers 'special' game homestand.

Not only was it a chance to erase the sting of a humbling loss in which he allowed five runs and seven hits in 3 innings, but it also was a stage for Collmenter to show that manager Kirk Gibson was justified in keeping Collmenter in the rotation in favor of Micah Owings, who switched to the bullpen roster. The Campbell brothers aren't the only siblings at Cardinals training camp. Just like their college days at Fordham, undrafted rookie tight end Stephen Skelton will be catching balls from his older brother John, who started four games at quarterback for the Cardinals a year ago.
