Kendrick, autocratic widow of the majestic Deep South plantation of the title, and Leslie Ann Warren plays young and impressionable Sarah, a visitor who falls in love with the place and Deborah's son, whom she weds. The widow dies, Sarah inherits; with marital and economic strife life is far from sweet. JENNY (12.05 am Tues) Mario Thomas, Alan Alda (1970).

To avoid the draft, a film-maker marries pregnant Mario Thomas. Despite Alda's talent, merely a lack-lather soaper. CHANNEL 10 FIRE SALE (midday) Alan Arkin, Rob Reiner (1979). Distasteful black comedy in which a store owner's heart troubles lead to his two sons commandeering the shop and deciding to take advantage of the fire-insurance policy to purchase new stock. Richardson is the barrister who defends a man (Beau Bridges) accused of slaying a woman for her money.

Perhaps the best acting in the film is by Rigg as Bridges' enigmatic wife. Pleasance is the prosecuting attorney and Kerr is Richardson's talkative nurse. THE STRANGER WHO LOOKS LIKE ME (2 am Thurs) Meredith Baxter, Beau Bridges (1974). Meredith Baxter plays an adoptee, who, with another in the same situation (Bridges), seeks her natural parents. CHANNEL 10 THREE SECRETS (midday) Eleanor Parker, Ruth Roman, Patricia Neal (1949).

A tense flashback-strewn drama of the anxiety experienced by three women who await news of their loved ones, involved in a plane crash on a remote mountain. CHANNEL 7 MARILYN THE UNTOLD STORY (midday) Catherine Hicks, Richard Basehart, Jason Miller, John Ireland (1980). Hicks was nominated for an Emmy Award for her portrayal of the screen goddess in this rendering of Norman Mailer's biography. AGATHA CHRISTIE'S POCKETFUL OF RYE (8.30 pm) Joan Hickson, Peter Davison, TUESDAY OCTOBER 15 Welles's first film and it established him as a force in the entertainment world. He plays a publishing magnate whose rise to power invites comparison with William Randolph Hearst.
