12.00: Close. City Extra, ABC Radio 1's new public affairs weekday program, will be launched next Monday from a new studio in William Street. The only one of its kind here, it has been specially designed for its purpose. Built around a central control-room, it means that the technical facilities are within sight of the producer in the public affairs Studio 216. According 10 Russell Warner, the head of ABC public affairs, the studio can be speedily linked by telephone with anywhere in the world.

The service will be handled in the studio by switching technical operators. Bill Dowsett, formerly of AM, will compere City Extra and Hamish Robertson, who has been standing in for Dowsett since AM returned to air after the Christmas break, will remain with AM. City Extra, which goes to air at 8.30 am on 2BL, will use talkback where direct response oF comment is required. Mr Bryon Quigley, the producer, who has lately been working at the BBC, said that while news is the cornerstone, the program will have a softer, more general presentation. "We'll be looking at Bach's Mass in Minor might have shortcomings as a liturgical work but as a concert piece it is great.

There will be two Delibes items, from La Source and Coppelia, one by Minkus and the other three are Debussy, Bizet and Berlioz..
