SOCIETY ITEMS TOPS Club Rewards Losers The regular meeting of TOPS Iowa 853 was held Thursday, October 5 in Memorial Hall basement. Members recited the TOPS pledge. Six members and one new member attended. The best loser of the week lost pounds. A corsage was presented to Marge Neuman for losing 25 pounds in less than four months.

Diane Ellis made a "mail box" for members to use for secret pal cards, notes and letters. Leader, Leola Kurth announced there was only one week left in the "challenge contest" with the Monona club. Pour members plan to attend "Self-Improvement Night" by the Volga club October 21. It was decided to have a weekly forbidden food that will not cause an unbalanced diet. This week's forbidden food is cookies.

A penalty is to be paid for each cookie a member eats. Each member is to make two new membership posters and put them in appropriate places. TOPS Club Inc. stands for take off pounds sensibly and is a non-profit weight-control organization combining self help, group theraphy and recognition for weight loss. Beaded brocaded lice covered the high rise neck- ne and extended over the bodice lid princess skirt with single rocaded lace accenting the leeves, cuffs, and a special ccent of brocaded leaf clusters entering on the cathedral train. Her full-length three tiered veil Iras edged with matching brocad- td lace and was attached to a lace lap. She carried a cascading pouquet of peach sweetheart oses with gold and rust mums Ind pompons with autumn rib- on. Debbie Moser, Dubuque, was bid of honor. Lori White, sister the bridegroom, and Deb leyers, Manchester, were I ridesmaids.

They wore matching each gowns with long sleeves nd empire bodice with long ties i the back. Brown velvet collars cuffs accented the gowns, ney wore brown velvet ribbons I their hair with long streamers, md carried nosegays of rust and (old mums with brown velvet ibbons falling in front. Kimberly Morley, Strawberry oint, cousin of the bride, was girl. She was attired like attendants and carried a r'icker basket of mums and ompons with brown velvet rib- on Mary Klaren, Hopkinton, cous- i of the birde, was her personal (ttendant. Brad White served his brother best man.

Dave Knipper, alias, brother of the bride and Mark Kregel, Wapello, were groomsmen. Michael Einck, nephew of the bridegroom, was ringbearer. Ushers were Steve Knipper, Edgewood, brother of the bride and Jim Whitehead, Maquoketa. The mother of the bride chose a Kelly green gown with long sheer sleeves accented with rhinestones on the front yoke. The mother of the bridegroom chose a two piece apricot jersey gown accented with ruffles.

Both wore corsages of peach sweetheart roses and white pompons with autumn trim. Ann Knipper, sister-in-law of the bride presided at the guest book. Gifts were opened by Nancy Klaren, Hopkinton, and Barb Hutchinson, Volga, cousins of the bride. A reception for 250 guests was held in the American Legion Club, Edgewood following the ceremony. Mr.

and Mrs. Morgan Hamer of Cedar Rapids, aunt and uncle of the bride served as host and hostess. Mrs. Gilbert Klaren, Hopkinton, and Mrs. Doris Lamb, Cedar Rapids, aunts of the bride, poured coffee and punch.

The wedding cake consisted of four alternating layers of chocolate and white angel food, covered with white icing decorated with peach flowers, topped with an ornament of the bride and groom. On each side of the wedding cake was a heart shaped cake with the brides and grooms name decorated with white icing and peach flowers. Mrs. Keith Harbaugh, Strawberry Point, aunt of the bride, made the cake and also cut and served it. Waitresses were Deb Bruns, Luana, cousin of the bridegroom, Sandy Harbaugh, Strawberry Point, Cherly Lamb, and Deb Wiltsey, Cedar Rapids, cousin of the bride.

The bride is a 1973 graduate of. ED-CO high school and has worked at Farmers and Merchants Savings Bank in Manchester. The bridegoom is a 1973 graduate of Postville high school and attended Northwest Iowa Vocational School, Sheldon. Both are now employed by Northern Engraving in Waukon. Rehearsal Supper A rehearsal supper was hosted by the bridegroom's parents Friday, Oct.

3 at the Franklin Hotel in Strawberry Point. After a wedding trip to the Wisconsin Dells and Minnesota the couple will be living in Postville. Those not used will be sent to a Veterans District president Jean Love was present and after inspection, gave a short talk and praised the work of the Auxiliary. A potluck lunch was served. District BPW In West Union The West Union Business and Professional Women's Club will host the Fall District Three meeting for eleven clubs, namely, Cedar Falls, Decorah, Dubuque, Elkader, Independence, LaPorte City, Manchester, Oelwein, Postville, Waterloo and West Union, Sunday, October 19 at the West Union Country Club from 9 o'clock a.m. until 3 o'clock p.m.

Registration will be from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. The theme will be "Hi-Lites The The guest speaker will be Phyllis Robuck, First Vice President of the Iowa Federation, Knoxville. Her topic will be "The Torch Is The West Union B.P.W. Club will be celebrating their 25th anniversary this year.

Country Cousins Elect Officers At the October 4th meeting of the Clermont Country Cousins dub held at the home of Wendy and DeAnn Bushman, new officers were elected. They are: president-Cindy Kerr; vice president-Lori Deering; secretary- Joyce Blockhus; treasurer-Laurie Nelson; historian-Deanna Kerr; reporter-Julie Hurst; telephone gjrl-DeAnn Bushman. There were 20 members and two visitors present. National 4-H club week was discussed. A skating party was planned for November 6.

Presentations presented included, "Either or Forced Choice" by Brenda Nelson; "4-H Ordering" by Teresa McNeil and "Values in Voting" by Cindy Kerr. Lunch was served. Reporter Jean Blockhus. They stayed at Ahaluna in the Tree Toppers.

The Tree Toppers are cabins built on poles about 6 ft. off the ground with ladders and hatch doors. The week-end was spent a- cheiving their "Troop Camper" badge. All meals were cooked over a campfire. The Saturday afternoon activities included a flag ceremony at the lodge (a good 1 'A miles away!) with Mary Eichmann, Renee Harnack, Lori Peck and Christine Spores in charge.

We all know that "What goes up must come well, at camp Tahigwa what goes down must also go up, so it was back another mile and a half up to the Tree Toppers where Rhonda DeCook, Jacque Hoth and Angela Smith had a tricky trail laid out in Indian Signs. After goofing 'that up sufficiently, Laurie Helgerson, Brenda Krambeer, Teresa Looney and Tami Peck had a "Nature Creep" ready. A nature creep is where you get down on your hands and knees in a certain area and find things of nature with your five senses and you aren't allowed to talk. Not even to say "Ouch" when you crawl on a thistle! After that everyone was ready for a "Gorp" and pop break followed by a game of Charades. That evening, around the camp fire, we had the story "What Ever Happened to Troop Sunday morning Lori Backhaus, Daphne Deering, Ronda Hubbard, Susan Jahnke, Debbie Krambeer and Connie Thornton conducted worship services.

They made a cross and used a natural rock formation for the pulpit and choir loft. The service included three lessons, two prayers and two songs. After worship service the cabins and latrines were swept, garbage collected, camp fire doused, cars loaded and all started happily but wearily for home. The parent drivers assisting were Mrs. Ed Krambeer, and Chuck Hoth.

Mrs. Eldean Drewes played the auto-harp as Mrs. Jim Nelson sang, "God Save the King" and Father of Mankind" as Mrs. Victor Walter accompanied her on a 1835 melodeon loaned by Mr, and Mrs. Louis Benjegerdes.

All sang "My Country Tis of Thee." Members brought antique articles to decorate the table adding nostalgia to the evening. The next meeting will be November 3 at the home of Mrs. Don Drahn. Mrs Honn girls; son, Mary and Swen- Mrs. Ted Feickert and Rhonda.

Citizens The Senior Citizens will meet at Memorial Wednesday, October 22 at noon for a potluck dinner. Hostesses will be Mrs. Sevena Schutta and Mrs. Ralph Green. Everyone is cordially invited.
