Col. Moller is "highly regarded to this day by the people he led over 50 years ago," Hosmer said.

"He is one of the giants of World War II and aviation history." He was decorated with many awards and medals, including the Silver Star, the Distinguished Flying Cross with several clusters, the Legion of Merit, and the Air Medal. Col. Moller earned honorary membership in the Association of Graduates of the Air Force Academy on Oct. 12, 1989. He became the academy's ninth selection in a class that includes former U.S.

Sen. Barry Goldwater of Arizona. leum laboratory in the United States. Throughout his career, Col. Moller held patents on more than 100 octane and diesel fuels.

As commander of the 390th Bombardment Group during World War II, Col. Moller led more heavy-bomber missions in Europe than any other senior officer. He also participated in more combat missions than any other officer of equal rank, leading some of the most famous combat missions from England to Russia. "Colonel Moller was known throughout the Air Force as a commander and leader of tremendous stature," said Lt. Gen.

Bradley Hosmer, superintendent of the U.S. After the war, Col. Moller's dedica: tion to the Air Force continued. He was instrumental in establishing the 390th' Memorial Museum in Tucson, which includes the Joseph A. Moller Library.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Barbara Streever; sons, George D. and Allan seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held Wednesday at the Air Force Academy Chapel in Colorado Springs. Contributions may be sent to the 390th Memorial Museum Foundation, P.O. Good com 10. 795mo. I By Suzanne Lopez The Arizona Republic Joseph A. Moller, retired vice president of Pure Oil Co. and a highly decorated Air Force colonel whose military contributions earned him a reputation as one of the "giants of World War II," died Saturday at his Paradise Valley home.

He was 93. Col. Moller, a native of St. Louis, started his military career in 1918 at Kelly Field in Texas, where he received his pilot's wings and was commissioned a second lieutenant. After obtaining a mechanical-engineering degree from Cornell University, Col.
