Algona, "The Friendly City", now also becomes THE CHRISTMAS CITY. Beautifully decorated and lighted stores, attractive new merchandise, all combine to add attractiveness to this holiday season of Christmas shopping in Algona. ALGONA - THE CHRISTMAS CITY HOME LIGHTING CONTEST ANNOUNCEMENT The Algona Chamber of Commerce, to stimulate home lighting in the Christmas theme, and to give recognition to time and effort on the part of our citizens, is offering three cash prizes in each of the four wards of the city, for most attractively decorated homes during the Christmas season. First place in each ward will receive a check for $3, second place brings $2, and third place $1, making a total of 12 cash prizes for Christmas home decorations and lighting. u There will also be three prizes on the same basis awarded for the business and industrial section of Algona. Plan now to compete for these awards. No registration or entry is necessary; several days before Christmas the judges will select an evening when they will make the rounds and select the winners. The date for this trip will be announced later. SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO ALGONA FRIDAY, DEC. 6 PARADE! FREE MOVIES! FREE; PONY RIRESI At 1:30 p. m., Friday, Dec. 6, Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive in Algona for his first 1946 appearance in this area. He is slated to arrive via automobile from the North Pole. He will be met by a reception committee and will then take part in a parade which will proceed down State Street. In the parade will be the Algona high school band, and horses and riders from the Seneca Saddle Club, as well as Santa himself. i". ,: , , . , . - - . ' Following the parade the Seneca Saddle Club members will give free pony rides to. all youngsters on State Street. Each youngster wijl be entitled to a rid.e on a nice, tame, friendly pony. Free movies will also be provided, with the first show slated to begin at 1 p. m., the second sho.w at 2:30, p. m. an^ the last show; at 4 p. m. Movies will be shown at the Iowa Theater and any overflow crowd will be handled at the Call Theatre. Tickets will be mailed by The Algona Chamber of Commerce to all rural school teachers for distribution to their pupils. Any pupils who, do not receive tickets can obtain jthem at the Chamber of Commerce office the day of the movie.
