Convention delegates assumed the role of a political league, and went about the job of framing a program of action for getting the AFL's friends elected to congress. That is big goal, the political league leaders the presidential race will attract most attention.

Such important political figures in the convention as Dave Beck, the west coast teamster boss, are insisting that the AFL should not tie itself in the future to any the labor groups should pick and choose their candidates on the basis of performance or platforms. The same view is shared by other AFL leaders who in the past have leaned heavily toward the Democratic party. Whether this deviation of viewpoint now means that the AFL will break its friendly relations with most Democratic the traditional exception of such AFL leaders as "Big Hutcheson of the to be seen. Because Beck's views probably are representative of most delegates' what he had to say about wight D. Eisenhower and other potential candidates is interesting.

The Seattle' leader 'said labor organizations should not commit themselves to the military hero because "we don't know where he stands on many domestic issues." In that connection, the American Federationist, the monthly AFL publication, has asked Eisenhower to declare himself on these issues. A reply is awaited The political activities will-be directed next year by James I. Me Devitt, head of the Pennsylvania State Federation of Labor. He succeeds Joseph D. Keenan, now secretary of the AFL's building trades department.
