The dog was not injured. "I'm sure a lot of people will be Sad to hear the news," Austin said. Mrs. Arredondo's six sons and five stepchildren are well-known in the east Valley for their service to Tempe's schools and to the community, he said. The car's driver, Samir Marc Bachour, 27, of Scottsdale, was not injured.

No citations were issued pending an investigation, Austin said. The mother of Maricopa County Supervisor Paul Ben Arredondo died Tuesday of injuries suffered Monday night when she was struck by a car while walking her dog, a Tempe police spokesman said.
