801 807 Funeral Announcements Funeral E.D. Jewett, a former state legislator and editor and publisher of The Daily Territorial in Tucson, died early Monday. He was 73. Mr. Jewett and his family began publishing a small neighborhood newspaper for the Casas Adobes area near Tucson in 1966.

When he retired from the Air Force that year, he began developing the paper, then called The Arizona Territorial, into a weekly community paper to serve the Foothills area. His company, Territorial Publishers eventually acquired the Tucson Publishing Co. and its two newspapers, The Daily Reporter and the News-Gazette. He retired and sold Territorial Publishers in 1990. He was elected to the Arizona House in 1980 as a Republican and served one term representing District 12.

His son Jack was elected as a Republican to the same seat in 1982, and served five terms before retiring from the Legislature last year. E.D. Jewett was born in Kansas, and served as an Air Force officer and pilot for 25 years. He received the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal and five Oak Leaf clusters. He served as chairman of the board of the Tucson Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce from 1985-87, and was a president of the Arizona Newspapers Association.

In addition to his son Jack, he is survived by his wife, Alice a daughter, Jill Jewett Riggs; another son, Stephen; and seven grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucson. In lieu of flowers, contribijtions can be made to the church, 750 W.
