N. S. Sports Editor NEW YORK The World Series is approximately around what is generally known as the corner, with the start tentatively set for Tuesday, Sept.

29, or Wednesday, Sept. 30. The New York Yankees have been established as 6 to 5 favorites over the Brooklyn Dodgers in the so-called fall baseball classic, although neither team has clinched its pennant. As to that, none of the rest -seems to want same. Baseball Commissioner Ford Friek has called a meeting for Sept.

8 in his New York offices among representatives of teams still in the American and National League races at that time for the purpose of completing details. There is not much point in any save the Yankees and Dodgers showing up, but because, as the feller said, anything can happen, especially when you least expect it. Chicago, Cleveland, Boston will be on hand from the American League and from the National will come Philadelphia and St. Loliis. The Yankee bosses, of course, will be there and you might add, as usual.

The Dodgers will be there almost as usual. This pre-series stuff is a commonplace festivity to both teams, especially the Yanks. The Big question mark now is (and there always is and must be a big question mark) whether the Yanks rate 6 to 5 favoritism over the current Dodgers. While it is true that the Dodgers have never won a World Series from the Yankees or from anybody else, there is an aspect to Rapp-Ma this that must not be overlooked, as the same feller said, that said something else a couple of paragraphs back. "There is always a first time," the feller said, proving that the more he talks the duller he gets.

Aside from that, the Dodgers have a powerful attack and much of everything necessary to go with it. You can't tell for sure what the Yankees have in the way of physical equipment for such an engagement as a World Series. They can go on winning streaks, they can go on losing streaks, they can hit or not hit pitch or not pitch. As the feller said (and here he is again), anything can happen in a short series and probably will.
