Monday, April 9, 1973 1 1 Rotarians hear businessman from Sweden SYCAMORE Harold Moeschlin, a world traveler and businessman from Goteborg, Sweden, spoke to the Sycamore Rotarians Wednesday on the differences between the two countries politically. Moeschlin is a business friend of Rotarian Pete Hilstrom, a past president. Moeschlin speaks eight languages.

He compared Sweden and the' United States in the area of political atmosphere, the social system, the educational set-up and the current monetary prob-lems. During the discussion, Moeschlin related that Thomas Edison made a tremendous impact on him when he was a student and he feels that through the efforts of the great American inventors and Swedish inventors, our two countries have been brought closer together. He felt that the current social system in Sweden may have gone too far. in trying to pro- duce the best for everyone in their society, but that corrective steps are being taken so that it can continue to provide security for the aged and education for the young, The current income tax rate is approximately 50 per cent and it is extremely difficult for anyone to make much over $10,000 as the tax rate accelerates to approximately 90 per cent of the income at higher levels. Taiwan-Hong Kong-Singapore, showing the areas of the Free Chinese that are located In and around the China Sea, is hosted by Eddie Chu. Chu was born in 1935 in China about 500 miles south of Peking.

When he was eleven, his family moved to Shanghai in order to escape the spread-in; threat of Communism. His stay in Shanghai was short because a year later Eddie and his family braved the China Sea in an open junk to sail to Formosa now called Taiwan. Eddie grated from Taiwan University with a degree in Economics and has had various occupations. He spent time as a newspaper reporter, airline pilot, interpreter, tour guide and now film maker. Taiwan is an island about one-fourth the size of New York State with about the same number of people.

On this tiny island are many sights to be enjoyed. You will see fireworks and festivals, take a thrilling ride along the Precipice Highway, enjoy the beauty of Sun-Moon Lake and visit the temple of 1,000 Bud-dhas. The N1U chapter will have Dr. Neville Robertson, administrative assistant for special projects, from the International PDK staff, as guest speaker, Approximately 33 new members will be initiated that evening by both Dr. Robertson and Dr, Lowell Rose, executive secretary of PDK.
