Set Make-Up Days At School Due To Snowstorms The Postville Board of Education set make-up days due to snow vacation on the following dates: March 27, 31, April 1, and to extend the school year one day through May 30. Parent conferences, originally scheduled for March 27, will be eliminated this spring in favor of having a full day of school on that date. Student progress reports will be mailed to all parents, but those parents desiring a personal conference with their children's tcachcr(s) will be accomodated. The Board emphasizes that the elimination of parent conferences this spring is due only to the need to make up lost days and that future conferences will be held as usual.

Two families who will be moving from the District were granted permission to have their children continue to attend the local school through the remainder of the school year, provided the school district into which the families arc moving will agree to the decision. In other business the Board accepted recommendations to require two years of mathematics for all senior high school students before being graduated and to replace world geography, an elective course in the high school, with a contemporary' affairs course which will be offered primarily to senior students. Both the requirements in mathematics (to be effective with this year's 9th grade class) and the contemporary affairs course will be placed into the curriculum at the beginning of the 1975-76 school year. Mrs.

Roger Tieskoettcr, secretary of the Postville Title I Parent Advisory Council, spoke to the Board about the Council's desire to continue the present special reading class that is being conducted at the eighth grade level. Should Federal Funds not be available to pay a portion of the reading instructor's salary during the coming year, it is the Council's wishes that the Board provide the salary for this purpose. No action was taken on this matter at this time. The Board granted the superintendent permission to attend a negotiation conference to be held in Iowa City during the latter part of March. The conference will be concerned with impasse procedures as they related to the negotiation process.

In its final business the Board voted unanimously to go into executive session to discuss specific personnel with several concerned parents who attended the meeting. Following the closed session the Board directed the superintendent to investigate the concerns as expressed during the closed session and to report his findings at a subsequent meeting. Also during the closed session the Board received staff evaluation reports from the elementary and the secondary school principals. The next regular Board of Education meeting will be held Monday. Keith Kerr of rural Postville to the office of president of the Flying Farmers of Iowa, this reporter was interested in learning a little more about the organization. A visit to the Kerr home revealed that there are approximately 25 enthusiastic Flying Farmer families in the immediate area who belong to the organization. They are part of 487 adults and 68 teens and juniors making up the 555 members in Iowa. Over 400 attended the 29th annual convention held in Fort Dodge, March 7, 8 and 9 where Mr. Kerr was elected to office.

Mr. Kerr, and his wife Verta, are both pilots and their daughter Cindy, 16, though not yet a pilot, was elected secretary-treasurer of the Flying Farmers of Iowa Teens at the convention. Thus flying is a family affair for the Kerr family in their Comanche 250. The family also includes Kenneth, 8, a flying enthusiast, Athletic Banquet Tickets On Sale Tickets for the Postville high school Athletic Banquet which will be held Friday, April 18 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, are now on sale.

The cruising speed of the Kerr plane is between 150 to 160 miles per hour and last year they logged between 150 and 200 hours of flying time. The trips are not just pleasure trips, however, as Mr. Kerr frequently uses the plane to attend dairy meetings and for other business. Flying Farmers find many other uses for their planes dust crops, to haul supplies into areas not accesible by road, to feed livestock marooned by blizzards and to check fences, to name a few. The objectives of the Flying Farmers organization, which is now International in scope, include sponsoring education and research in agricultural aviation; promote safe flying through education of pilots in the use'of radio and other navigation aids; to insist that aviation gas taxes, where collected, be used for the development of aviation legislation and to encourage the conservation of soil and water resources through education.

The Iowa Flying Farmers meet once a month at different points around the state. A camp-out at Monona last July was attended by 98, and 73 planes with a total of 403 persons attended a meeting at Leon last summer. About half of the meetings are potluck dinners. The winter meetings arc mostly held in restaurants with often a speaker. The organization believes in community betterment and last September members gave rides asking donations of two cents a pound, for which they collected $3,180.58.

The proceeds were donated to the Quakcrdalc Home at New Providence, Iowa. The longest trip the Kcrrs have taken was to San Antonio, Texas last summer. It took seven hours from Monona to San Antonio, much less time than those who made the flight commercially, due to transfers. The Kerrs consider flying as safe as travel by auto and all enjoy the common bond that ties the Flying Farmers together, not just the benefit derived from owning and operating an airplane, but the wholesome entertainment and opportunity to get acquainted with others of like interests.
