This fourth album moves even further away from their signature half-melodlcs and moody layers of metallic percussion, and seeks out more sparse, abrasive territory. Never a dancefloor act, Autechre presents 70 minutes of almost random clicks and whirrs and out-of-, phase drum loops, an absorbing spiral into abstract sound for the adventurous home listener. Trlsh Maunder Helmet stick to pounding riffs (good for barbell work) and tense rhythms (handy for sit-ups), with no space for effusive guitar solos (best for Interpretive dance).

Singer-guitarist Page Hamilton used to play Jazz and play on Glenn Brancas experimental feedback-laden orchestral pieces, and Aftermath bears their mark with its razor-sharp timing and unusual tones.
