fMt Vftrt virjii July Brazosport Area Hen In The Armed THE DAILY c-mr TERRY F. COBB George P. Slade, Son of Mr and Mrs. George E. Slade of Freeport, is among the 2500 didatos now undergoing officer (raining at the Marine Corps School at Quantico, Virginia.

Candidate Slade is a member of the Marine Corps' Platoon Leaders Class. Members of this group train for six weeks during the two summer vacation from college. Successful candidates are commissioned second lieutenants the Marine Corps Reserve upon their graduation from college and serve active duty for two years. Slade is a student at the University of Houston and a 1949 graduate of Freeport High School. His parents live at 1130 West Broad, Freeport.

Harry E. Cobb of Freeport has arrived at Fort Hood, Texas, where he will be assigned to the Combat Command of the First Armored Division for basic training. Pvt. Cobb is th son of; Mr. and Mrs.

E. R. Cobb of 927 West Broad Street, Freeport. He is a graduate of Freeport High School. Pfc Charles F.

Kyle of Velasco will be-transferred to Hawaii this month along with 4000 Marines in a Regimental Combat Team from the 3rd'Marine Division. Kyle, 20, is the son of Mr. and Mrs C. S. Kyle of Route 1, Velasco.

The RCT will undergo about six months of intensive training as part of 'the 1st Provisional Marine Air-Ground Task Force at the Marine Corps Air Station at Kaneohe Bay on the island of Oahu before returning to Camp Pendleton, Calif. Pfc Kyle serves as an assistant Browing Automatic Rifleman in 3rcl Marines, an infantry regiment of the 3rd Marine Division stationed at Camp Pendleton. Second Lieutenant William A. Hargrove of Freeport hns received his Observer Wings and Reserve Commission in the United States Air Force at Sheppard Air Force Bas. Lt.

Hargrove, 22, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam T. Hargrove of 1206 West Gth Street, Freeport. Upon graduation, Hargrove was rated as a Radar Bombardier on B-29 type aircraft and will receive further specialized observer training at a Crew Training Air Force Base in the United States.

Lt. Hargrove successfully completed 42 weeks of specialized training to earn his Reserve Commission and Observer Wings. Cpl. Adolph Barack, whose parents live in Angleton, is now serving with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea. Barack entered the Army in May, 1932, and worked for the David Plumbing Co.
