1962 FRANKLIN'S MIKE HICKS (16) shrugs off an Eagle tackier to make it into the end zone and send the Lions ahead 6-0 early in the game Friday night at Franklin. The swift Lion back barely crossed the last stripe before Eagle safety man, Stephen O'Neal, made his bid. Photo) (Continued from Page 1) score was 12-6. The Eagles missed see action were David Ely, Carl Stanitzky, Frank Perrone, Bill Jackson, Charles Cotropia. the extra point as usual.

James Crowder intercepted BUT THIS WAS not all. Hearne thrce passes Bil1 tu kicked to Franklin and two plays ed some superlative booting later Hicks lofted one that seemed headed for the promised land. But out of nowhere came Stephen and the Batson boys, Jim and Tim, scored all 38 points. Tim scored four touchdowns and Jim (Red) O'Neal, Eagle safety. He two began to hike his hikenest toward the goal.

On the 20 he leaped high into the air like a gazelle and down he came with all the tea in China. You talk about making blueberry cakes out of mud pies this did it. The sound of the ball popping in his hands was sweeter than the tinkle of ice in the tall glass, or the melody of strings on the water. Five plays thereafter the Eagles had the pigskin on their own 37. S-W-I-S-H! the ball snapped back to Tim Batson.

Into the line he went a twistin' and a wigglin'. Out he came into the open with blockers forming like a wave on the Caribbean. On he went for 63 yards and over the line to put the frosting on the cake. Again bedlam reigned and the rumbling sound pounded the ears like the thunder of the surf. It fed upon excitement of the moment and excitement fed upon it.

Sheer, stark insanity swept the multitude and clutched all in it's gibbering, perspiring embrace. You would have thought Caroline Kennedy had come on the field and was leading the band. The score was now 18 to 6 and it looked like a very mild winter. The Eagles missed the extra point as usual. IN THE THIRD quarter Jim Batson scampered 43 yards to make it 24 to 6.

Minutes later in the fourth Tim Batson dashed 20 to bring it to 30-6. Both extra points were missed as usual. Franklin's fullback Barnett crashed for a Lion touchdown and the score stood at 30-12. The final marker came in the closing minutes when Tim Batson turned in a 60 yarder. Terry Collie helped clear the way with a fine key block on the Lion 35.

Jim Batson added 2 points with a run into the line. Final score 38 to 12. It would be hard to name all the players who starred in the game. Milstcad, at end, Scasta, quarterback, played great ball for Franklin. Hicks was outstanding and has another year.

For the Eagles seniors Craig Hawthorne, Ronny Reed, Tommy Lund, Thomas Wilkins, Terry Calhoun, Harold Furnish, and Terry Collie went all out and ended their careers against the Lions without ever losing to them. AMONG THE youngsters to shine were Johnny Mathis, Danny Pursley, Butch Martine and Chester Russell. Other Eagles to It is now four in a row over the Lions for the legions of Batson and Kuehn. Hearne has won 28 games from Franklin while losing 12, four have been ties.
