3.IHA HftVA V10J THO Church teens write play Teen-agers from Christian Family Church will perform a short play they have written and produced at the national finals of the Festival of the Arts of the Assemblies of Ood In Oklahoma City, Auf. 8-6. The teen-agers, Oliver Knight, Sarah Ruegg, Eva Trujillo, Grace Robinson and David Robinson, will represent the south central region of the U.S.-New Mexico. Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. On Sunday, (July 26) they will do a Bible read-a-thon in Taos to raise money through pledges.

A committee has been named and efforts are underway to get clearance from city and county officials. President Manuel "Manjo" Trujillo said he is optimistic about the event becoming a reality and invites all interested people to get involved and help make the event an all- out joint effort.

TAOSENOS who helped in the "Recuerdos Del Pasado" project for public radio KRZA will help celebrate Fiestas at the San Luis Museum Saturday (July 25) at 1:30 p.m. A reception and presentation of "Recuerdos" will be in the community room of the San Luis Museum (side entrance), and audio cassette sets of the historical series will be on sale, said producer Ruby Bailon Payne. All Taosenos are invited to the celebration of the series and of Fiestas in San Luis. THE TAOS MARIACHIS are the newest musical group in Taos.

The group will perform for the Taos Fiestas Sunday morning (July 26). It is headed by Frank V. Garcia, composer of the words and music to New Mexico's 75th anniversary song. Members of the group include Garcia and Audrey Davis on violins, trumpeters Michael Martinez and Fred Anglada, Marty Martinez on the bass and singer Marina Garcia. Garcia is trying to change the mariachi's scheduled time from 8 a.m.

Sunday, when they will sing the anniversary song. He says, "This is a beautiful song, and I hate to use it to wake up the pigeons on Sunday morning." CUTE UGLY DOGS are wanted for a contest Saturday (July 25) at 4 p.m. in the Animal Health Clinic parking lot. Prizes include dog food, leashes and collars. All entrants must have a certificate of vaccination from their veterinarian, or a free physical exam provided for entrants.

Deadline for the physical is July 24. Dogs who are eight years old and older will be in a special "Geriatric parade." For information call Dr. William Wiatt, 758-9115. Director Neil Poese said the museum needs tinwork, especially 19th century wall sconces, candelabra and nichos; textiles, particularly Rio Grande blankets and colcha from the early 19th century; Taos Pueblo cookware and 19th century imported goods from Mexico such as filigree and embroidery, and all manner of items from the Martinez family. QUILTING DEMONSTRATIONS by Taos quilter Dorothy Zopf, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. this Saturday (July 25) and next Saturday (Aug. 1) at Sew Good Fabrics. Zopf will give quilting demonstrations, technique tips and use computer generated quilt patterns.

People will be able to use the computer in the store. Refreshments will be served. Zopf is featured in the August 1987 issue of McCall's and Needlework and Crafts magazine. ENOS GARCIA of the Kiwanis Club of Taos attended the 72nd annual convention of Kiwanis International in Washington, D.C. July 5-9.

Other club representatives at the convention were Celestino and Dulcie Romero. SEN. JEFF BINGAMAN will be honored by the Taos County Democratic party at a gala Fiesta luncheon Sunday (July 26) at the Taos Lodge beginning at 11 a.m. Cost of the luncheon is $10 payable at the door. The public is invited.

The Optimists are sponsoring a poster contest for young peole age 17 and under, with the theme, "Say No to Drugs." Posters will be judged during the children's Fiesta parade Sunday (July 26).
