Child abuser gets 19 years A former elementary-school teacher on the Havasupai Indian Reservation in the Grand Canyon was sentenced Monday to nearly 20 years in prison for sexually molesting three female pupils under 10 years old. Under a plea agreement, Frederick Stover, 49, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated sexual abuse for performing oral sex last spring on three girls ages 5, 7 and 9. "I know that no adult has any right to take advantage of any child Stover, said.

"I know I did something wrong." U.S. District Judge Earl Carroll questioned the sincerity of Stover's remorse in sentencing him to 19 years and seven months in prison, the maximum term permitted under the plea agreement. A charge of aggravated sexual abuse can carry a sentence of life in prison. "I have the perception that Mr. Stover has abused other students for an extended number of years," Carroll said, adding that Stover has gone from job to job at various school districts.

FBI agents arrested Stover on June 5 in Supai, where he had taught two years. Two children were removed from the house and placed with the state Child Protective Services agency. Environmentalists' trial in sabotage delayed A federal judge on Monday postponed until June 4 a trial for five Earth First! environmental activists accused of conspiring to sabotage nuclear-power and weapons plants in Arizona, California and Colorado.

U.S. District Judge Robert Broomfield moved the trial from early April because of a scheduling conflict for Gerry Spence, the lead attorney for defendant David Foreman. Foreman, a co-founder of the group, is accused of providing advice and money to four others in the alleged plot. Driver accused in death of woman leaving lot A 26-year-old motorist has been arrested and accused of manslaughter after he allegedly crashed into a car pulling out of the parking lot of a north Phoenix supermarket, killing the driver and injuring her three young passengers, police said. Michael Troy Reichart of the 4100 block of West Hayward Avenue was booked into a Maricopa County jail after the crash.

Becky Rogers, whose address was unavailable from police, was killed Friday when her Oldsmobile sedan reportedly was struck by Reichart's Ford Thunderbird as she exited the parking lot of Smitty's, 4707 E. Head's wider and longer tennis racquet was introduced. The oversize racquet caught on quickly and now is widely used by Clifford D. Bruce, 92, a winter visitor from Minnesota, died March 2, 1991.
