Ron Andrews, co-producer of Fire and Ice has worked with Babe for years, and brought him to the Hacienda show because of Babe's versatility. "We go way back to my old lounge act days," Andrews said. "Babe has always been able to work any room, any size, with any age audience. Whatever the group or style, Babe can fill the bill." Babe's repertoire runs the gamut, from classic characters like Cagney and Jimmy Durante, to more contemporary figures like Pee Wee Herman and Rambo.

He has even been known to bring Dr. Ruth to the stage of the Hacienda's Fiesta Theatre to offer a little advice. Pier's good humor and fondness for performing shows in his work during nightly performances of Fire and Ice. His comedy and impressions provide pacing to the dazzling revue. Fire and Ice showtimes are 7 p.m.

The lion is back, literally, at the MGM Marina Casino Hotel, located on the "Strip" at Tropicana in Las Vegas. Metro, the MGM lion is now on display in the yellow circus tent located in front of the hotel from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven clays a week.

Metro is the official MGM Studios' lion, and his great, great grandfatiher was the original MGM lion. Visitors can have their picture taken with Metro and and get a variety of print options for $20. Metro is 16-years-old, and weighs approximately 530 pounds. He sleeps 16 to 20 hours a day and eats between 10 and 12 pounds of food (steak and chicken). According to the hotel, it costs approximately $6,000 a year to feed the lion.

He lives on a farm 10 miles from the hotel and is trained by Keith Evans. Photos are taken safely behind a glass wall. The MGM Marina will soon become the world's largest resortcasinotheme park complex with 5,000 rooms. Construction is slated to begin on this mammoth project later this year or early 1991. In the meantime, all 700 existing rooms have been completely remodeled and a buffet has been added to the hotel.
