THE TERRE HAUTE STAR. WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 1966. 7 to the ladies Enjoy the full panorama of spring indoors, in your home or apartment, from arrangements of cut branches of forsythia, cherry blossoms, quince, spirea and dogwood. Over a period of several weeks these cut branches will come into full bloom, then shed their flowers and develop shiny new green leaves, completing the panorama of spring. The branches will last longer if they are cut, or purchased from florists, when the first flower bud begins to open and if their stems and the container in which they are to be placed are kept clean, says the Society of American Florists.

The woody stem ends should be split or crushed to permit their absorption of water. Both the stems and the container in which they are to be arranged should be cleaned with soap and hot water. Warm water should be poured into the container and all foliage removed be- low the water level. To stop bacteria from grow- i ing. causing objectionable I odors and drastically reducing the life of cut branches, repeat the hot water and soap treatment of both the stems and the container about every third day, with a change of water.

It's going to be the youngest Easter ever. The fashion people are unanimous in their accent on youth. Words like "Mary Jane," "little girl" and "peekaboo" describe the Easter costume from boots and slippers to dresses and blouses. The hemline's escalation has given rise to the "leggy look." The artful cutouts in dresses are "see throughs." Some call them "you throughs." It all adds up today's young outlook. It doesn't matter how old you are, if you think young and have a figure to match, these spring fashions are for you.

Be sure you're ready for them. Your new dress may look like the one on the magazine cover. But are you as carefully groomed as the model on the cover? Is your dress lint- free and freshly pressed? Mothers of cry babies simply resigned themselves to the fact that their little ones had less tolerance for discomfort. Research on readiness to cry by Dr. Samuel Karelitz, a pedia- wife agrees not to use them to decorate your home, the two of you might succeed in adding another four weeks, two days and eleven hours to your marriage. No one is completely honest at all times, but are you honest trician at Long IslandJewish with voursel For a sc if- re veal- Hospital, shows that a baby's crying my serve as a direct index of his intelligence.

By snapping a rubber band on the bottom of a baby's foot, Dr. Karelitz found that he could stimulate a crying response in any infant, but while the normal baby will respond the first time time with a full minute of wailing protest, a brain-damaged child will require three or more attempts before crying out. Charts of the crying patterns of two-day-old babies show that their cries were different in volume and rhythmic pattern from those of children with mental defects. Normal babies also cried much more easily than mentally ones. GETS THE MESSAGE Having made thousands of recordings of babies' crying, during the course of his study, Dr.

Karelitz claims to distinguish easily between cries for hunger, for tiredness, or -discomfort, and for delight. Not only do cries differ in the moods they communicate but, according to Dr. Karelitz, they represent various stages of vocal-verbal development. "The brighter infant was found to pass through the stages of crying, gibberish and speech more quickly than one that ultimately measures a lower IQ," he reported. It is hoped that ultimately these investigations will help in the screening of babies for adoption.

Meanwhile, the group is considering the use of their recordings to teach parents what noises a normal infant should make. Such a recording may do more good than a symphony to mend frayed nerves for the parents of cry babies. So, mother, if your baby cries easily, it may just be a sign of his superior intelligence. With women's hosiery having to be more attractive than ever, manufacturers are anticipating demand for alluring stockings with new styles, various color hues and technical improvements. Women whose legs tire easily, or whose professional occupations require extensive walking or hours of standing, are not being forgotten by those who cater to the fashion-minded. One company has introduced a new sheer high- fashion support hose for those who want luxury style and comfort while preventing leg fatigue.

This hosiery is ingeniously designed and made to give medically-correct support, yet is elegantly filmy and flattering. It comes in fashionable shades, too.
