18 THE SYDNEY MORNING HERALD. FRIDAY. FEBRUARY M. 193ft. GREYHOUND IRACING.

FIRST; HEAT THE MILE RACE.1 RACE DAYS. WON. 4 THE RACING CALENDAR. MAI'I LAND. NEW STEWARDS.

Wider Scope Possible. MR. FRAZER'SJJEW SPHERE. Racing In Sydney will now be under the control of Ave stewards Instead of four, and the appointment of Mr. O.

Prazer to the position of supervisor of licensed persons and premises will widen the scope of the activities of the board. Trainers, Jockeya. bookmaker and others, have always twen under surveillance, but with racing on three days of the week and with more office work than many people imagine, the stewards have not had a real opportunity for the detailed supervision that racing demands. Mr. Fraser is one of the most experienced stewards in (lie state, and there seems a genuine satisfaction that a way has been found to retain his services in the metropolitan area.

He will have a more or less roving commission. It would. Indeed, be a grand thing if the committee could let him pay attention to the betting-ring from time to time. With his knowledge of the ramifications of racing, the stewards would be kept armed with valuable information, for there Is no barometer in racing as reliable as the betting-ring. NEW CHAIRMAN'S POLICY.

Mr. George Williams, who Is the new chairman of the stipendiaries, yesterday epitomised his policy when he said that he had always held that the duties of a steward were to prevent misdoings rather than Indict (Weights. To be run on Tua.d. River Flying. St.

Proprietary Clubs to Benefit. Metropolitan racing fixtures have ftjain been adjusted, this time to return to the MooreHeld and the Canterbury Park Racing Clubs the Saturday fixtures taken from them in the original allotment. Warwick Farm will lose two Saturdays, but the Australian Jockey Club has some compensation In the fact that the Wednesdays have been re-allotted, so that the Wednesdays at Warwick Farm will be followed by meetings on the next Saturday. The fixture list will not be finally determined until there Is an announcement from the Government about the day on which the King's Birthday will be celebrated. It Is more than likely that this holiday will be In June, In which event there will be a further nmendment of the fixtures, so that the A.J.C.

Blue Ray has Improved in appearance since he unexpectedly won at Victoria Park on January 19, and must be considered. None of the remainder has won, but several have shown promise.

General Monash has been placed at each of his last three runs. He was beaten for second place behind Brigand at Rosehill by Glenone, and on to-morrow's handicaps there should not be much between the pair. Bull Chase Is improving. He has not run since he finished strongly at Rosehill in December tn the race won by Beau Verre. Glittering Flame hag had many opportunities without showing to great advantage.

Orontes, Bestop, and Last Chance would have to improve a good aeai to nave a cnance, ana the remainder have not yet run in a race. FILLIES, The fillies' division Is comparatively weak. There are two winners, Beau Verre and Areas, and Beau Verre's performance In winning at Rosehill from Kuttabul and Areas points to her again finishing In front of Areas, who does not appear as solid in a finish as her rival. After her win, Beau Verre was third at Randwlck to Benora and Vintage, and then was fourth at Warwick Farm In the race In which Vlall beat Early Bird, a good winner since then. Areas Improved on Tier third at Kosenui oy winning at victoria ram, ana was afterwards unnlaced behind Ollla at Rosehill.
