He makes weekly and monthly rounds to offices on his routes, where he picks up shoes and fixes in his van. If the work cannot be done in his van, he takes the shoes home, where he and his family work on them, he said. Baker said his wife Gail, and even 2-year-old son Erin, can be found with a hammer in their hands from time to time. Nancy Widmer, a receptionist for Coventry Homes, said the quality of Baker's work is exceeded only by his personality.

"He's an absolutely delightful man with a wonderful sense of humor," Widmer said. "I look forward to seeing him come through the office every Wednesday afternoon. He comes in, fixes peoples' shoes and puts a smile on everyone's face. He does an excellent job." Marci Farnsworth a secretary for the Trammell Crow agreed with Widmer about Baker's fun-loving sense of humor and expounded on his high quality work and low prices. "He's been coming in for about two years and his work is great," Farnsworth said.

"He uses high-quality materials, so the repairs seem to last longer than comparable work done- at other shoe-repair stores.
