Today is January 1 with temperature 74 degrees and a sunny afternoon with cloudy morning. Texas weather can't be predicted. We remember in that long ago, one fall, there was no frost until after Christmas. The beautiful honeysuckle vine, the clematis and coral vines were in full bloom clinging to the trellis on tht porches. In my mind's eye those pictures are vivid now The celebration of Christmas is over now and we look forward to another.

Christmas makes our homes a haven of rest and security filled with love and understanding. Happiness comes when we forget ourselves. We now look forward to the work ahead, ao many things to be done. Our thanks to Bill Moss for helping save the camp houses in the fire. His name was omitted in the report.

The deer hunters are packing up and leaving today; and are coming by to renew the leases for the year. Mr. Giles remarked it was the best hunt he had ever had. You should see the oat fields he planted. The deer are feasting.

Homer Ward of Tyler told me this was his 28th year to hunt on Killough Ranch and the 27th for his wife. Deer were located in this area in if I am correct. No hunting for the next five years. Then in 1MO one deer was killed, and the next year five deer were killed. Never any does.

One year there were 119 bucks killed on Killough Ranch, he reported to me today. The game warden can five us the total for the county this year Sunday, January weather changeable an a woman. The temperature was freezing last night and today. The water ia cut off. We cook the past week.

THI8 DAY January 10, M7-On this day years ago Americans mourned the death of one of the most colorful figures in American history, "Buffalo Bill." Born William Frederick Cody, ho was one of the original pony express riders at age 1ft. Later, he earned his nickname furnishing buffalo meat for construction workers on the Kansas Pacific Railway. His exploits as a scout for the United gtatea Army won him national fame and sot the stage for his famous wild west show that brought him international prominence Dear K.ditar Why don't you and me go into the public opinion poll business I got this idea last night while I was looking over a copy of The Dallas News that my dog dragged into the yard yesterday afternoon and left there tin torn, didn't like the taste of it I guess, although I don't know why, you ought to see some of the bones he chews on At any rate, over on an inside page there was the result of the latest Gallup Poll. After surveying people clear across the nation, the poll discovered that the "most urgent problem facing the average man and his family today is money Of all family problems, it found, "the high cost of living overshadows all other worries of the American people today." This is the reason you and me ought to start our own public opinion poll. I could have discovered the same results without interviewing a single prrnon or using even a postage stamp, and if you can sell thr poll to other newspapers, everything we take in will be net profit, and I can sure use my part to help meet thr high cost of living.

You bought any tractor parts lately? Bern to the hospital? Replaced a picture tube? Fed a growing boy? Bought any dog food? There are some things a man just knows automatically, and one of them is that regardless of how much he earns, his family is always one Jump ahead in needing a little more. Every tinte he gets into a new income bracket, he discovers his family has been there for months already. Another thing about this poll we ought to start is that we could use it over and over. Not only Is true that the average consumer is In an economic squeeze today, he was in one yesterday, last year, 10 years ago, and most likely will be In one 10 years from now. By the time you own one car, your family needs two, and whan you swing that, color television comes in and the family next door has a speedboat.

Let's get this poll going. My tractor is missing out and my TV set is nickering. Yours faithfully, J. A. Mr.
