Congratulations 6 n a Tremendous 1965-66 5 ' s DALE TEETER DENNIS BRIEDERT STEVE WALLER We Salute You on Your Remarkable Record and Your entry into the State Tournament CRAIG ESPE MERRYMAN TOM CLAUDE 1 V j#; DAVE WALKER A GREAT COACHING STAFF Howie Stephenson Howie Stephenson his compiled an enviable record since taking byer the head coaching job at Algona high school; in 1959. In seven seasons his teams have! won 105 games and lost just 48. He has had three North Central Conference champions — in 1960-61, again in 1962-63 and in 1963-64. His team this year was runnerup with a 12-2 mark, During his seven seasons here, he has never had a losing season. Howie is an Algona high school graduate of 1947 and after attending Emmetsburg Junior College, he was graduated from Iowa . State Teachers; College in 1955. After two years as head coach at Mallard, where he compiled a 39-9 basketball record, he came to Algona in 1957 as junior high coach. Always, his teams have conducted themselves as gentlemen and as a coach, Howie's conduct on and off the court has been above reproach. We are proud that we have a coach of his calibre at Algona high school. Keith Christie Sometimes called the "forgotten man" behind Algona athletic success but most important is Keith Christie. Keith came to Algona from Missouri where he coached. He grew up at Shenandoah, which incidentally, was also represented in the state tournament for the first time in history this year. Keith began as freshman basketball coach in 1960 and the following year moved up* to fresh-sophomore coach and assistant to Coach Howie Stephenson. Keith's first year was a losing one, 6-8, but since then, he has produced nothing but winners. He has coached the "B" squad since 1962 and his finest year was the present campaign when his charges won 15 and lost just one and were the champions of the junior varsity in the North Central Conference. Keith also assists coach Jim Hershberger in football. Both head coaches will attest to his valuable aid, year after year. BRAD KRAFT BOB FARNHAM A SUPERB SEASON'S RECORD Off Avc. 67.0 Dcf.
