NEW BULLET THIS COUPON GLOVE GLOVE YOU'LL WEAR COUPON I AJAY GOLF CART By Lee Shappell The Arizona Republic The Suns are looking for a backup at power forward and center, team president Jerry Colangelo said Friday. "We'd like to add another big body if we can find one who is better than what we have," Colangelo said.

"The problem is, there are not many available." Colangelo said the Suns have not given up on backup power forward Kenny Gattison, who missed most of training camp because of a bruised knee, or with rookie backup center Andrew Lang. "Andrew is going to be fine with time," Colangelo said. "But he may have a foul problem. I don't think (coach) Cotton (Fitzsimmons) has given up on Kenny Gattison. He had a good conversation with him today.

The bottom line is Kenny has to show him he wants it. It would be nice to have another big body." The Suns have no specific candidates in mind, Colangelo and Fitzsimmons agreed. "During the preseason, we're looking at other clubs, basically looking at talent," Colangelo said. He said if the Suns do not find a big man that they like, the option would be to use players from the team's lengthy list of small forwards. "We could use smaller, more active people to stir things up," Colangelo said.

"In Las Vegas, for example, we used (small forward) Tom Chambers in the middle with (small forward) Tyrone Corbin out there during our comeback (against the Los Angeles Lakers). When you are behind, (small forward) Eddie Johnson has got to be out there from time to time because you need his scoring. There are times when you want Corbin out there, too, because he creates so much with his defense and rebounding. We'll have to be flexible." The Suns are approximately $200,000 under the NBA salary cap, giving them some room to add a salary. They have a number of high draft picks stockpiled that could be used as trade bait, or they could move one of the many shooting guards or small forwards to get a big man or a combination of the above.

It is known that Cleveland is looking to move one of their big men either Rod Williams (6-foot-ll, 230 pounds, age 27) or Phil Hubbard ORIG 3900 WHY RENT A CART WHEN YOU CAN BUY ONE AT THIS PRICE? "I am quite sure the (FIBA) congress will vote in (April in) favor of the change," Stankovic said at a joint news conference with NBA commissioner David Stern before the start of an exhibition game between the Boston Celtics and the Yugoslav national team. Stern said he would encourage NBA players to compete in the Games if FIBA, which governs basketball outside the United States, votes to drop restrictions against professionals.

Stern said he considered the Olympics "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity" for a player to represent his country. "If it does come to pass, my guess is that there would be a league rule and a league policy" governing NBA participation, he said. Stankovic said he was opposed to an FIBA amendment proposed by the Soviet delegation to limit NBA participation to two players from each national team because it would hinder the development of top-level international players. We don't want to go that, route. I'd take an old backup center and power forward if he was head-and-shoulders above the rest, but, otherwise, we're committed to going with young players." Colangelo said Tisdale's game more closely resembles that of a small forward than a power forward. Outta here? Point guard Rodney Johns, the third-round draft choice from Grand Canyon College who played so well during pre-camp workouts and seemed a strong candidate to make the team, has just about played his way off it although Fitzsimmons won say so. Johns was given a starting assignment against Denver on Thursday. He didn make the most of it.

Fitzsim mons yanked him after five minutes because he couldn't handle Denver's pressure defense. Fitzsimmons gave him another chance in the second half and Johns turned the ball over on three successive possessions in two minutes. Out he came, for good. The damage report: four turnovers in seven minutes and two points. In four preseason games, totaling 43 minutes, Johns has committed 15 turnovers, shot 4 for 17 (23.5 percent) and scored 12 points.

The other youngsters Tim Perry, another rookie who has appeared to be lost throughout train ing camp, also got his first start against Denver and continued to look like he got off the bus at the wrong stop. Rookie shooting guard Dan Ma- jerle has proved give the Suns everything except shooting. "I had a guy say to me that Majcrle is the worst shooter among the shooting guards who were drafted, and I wouldn't argue that," Fitzsim mons said. He not a great shooter. He never was.

But he gives us so many other things. I told the guy if he came to see Dan Majerle play and he was disappointed, Id give him his money back. Majerle is shooting 43.5 percent (20 for 46), but most of his baskets have been on post-ups, drives or tip-ins. late surge skid. Muller took a pass from Aaron Broten on the goal line to the left of goalie Wendell Young.

He took a step out and slid the puck under him for a 5-4 lead at 3:27 of the final period. Pittsburgh's Mario Lemicux, who entered with five goals and seven assists in his last two games, had two goals and an assist Maple Leafs 4, Red Wings 2 DETROIT Darren Veitch and rookie Daniel Marois scored 51 seconds apart in the second period for Toronto. Veitch broke a 1-1 tie at 9:14 of the second period when his 15-foot shot beat Greg Stefan for his first goal of the season.
