4--AL60NA (lowt) ADVANCE THURSDAY, JAN, 20, 1966 Annual banquet held at Burt by U & I Circle Burt — The artnual U and I Circle banquet- was held Jan. 15 at the Ervin Ulses home. Prcs ent were the Robert Anguses, Leonard Dittmers, Gladys Hawcott, Elsie Junkermeier, Neoma Junkermeier, Alma Junkermeier, Estherville, the Ed Larsons, Magdalene Ortman, the Homer Sabins, Merle Schwieterts, E. Ulseses, Rosemary Ulses, the Ray Westlings. After the turkey dinner and before the pictures, a skit was given with Mrs. Ulses as narrator entitled 'later. Theatre party. Magda lene was agitator; Marion, sweet later; Hazel, hesitator; Alma, commentator; Frances, imitator; Maxine, spectator; Isabel, dictator. Each modeled a hat to correspond with the character. Rosemary Ulses showed pictures of the World's Fair and Washington, B.C. and of the Essex on which they had cruised After the pictures refresh ments were served by the hos tesses, Mrs. Ulses and Magda lene Ortman. and John Schwietert, Jatie Bat' dou, and the Marlin Mosloskis, Bast Chain. Mrs. Elsie Lockwood and Lowell Winter, Los Angeles, Calif., were guests Jan. 15 at Ray Me Whorter's. Cribbage tiR at Lone Rock is under way Lone Roek — The first session of the cribbage tournament was played Wednesday with James Marlow and Roger Radig winning a total of 9 games with a total of 1072 points. The next night to play will be Jan. 26. Entry fee is $1. CLUB ANNIVERSARY Helen Vogel, Mary Sarchet Ethel Smith and Luella Me Whorter-attended the Union Mo thers and Daughters club Jan 13 at Ada Hofius's with Mar guerite Gardner and Julia Tay lor as assisting hostesses. This is the oldest club in the stat of Iowa. The club will celebrate its 60th anniversary Feb. 10 ,with a banquet and program a Algona. All members and for mer members are to be presen and their husbands to be guests COUNCIL MINUfti Hugh Walsh left recently for Phoenix, Ariz., where he will visit indefinitely at his daughter Marjorie, the Jim Shilling- tons. The Les Johnsons, Dodge Center, Minn., have a 6 Ib. 6 oz. boy born Jan. 7 at the hospital in Owatonna, Minn. He has been named Steven Daniel. Mr. Johnson was formerly but- termaker at the creamery here. Mrs. Beulah Gammelgaard, Ringsted, is the maternal grandmother. 101 — S. A. Christenson, Webster City's oldest resident, observed his 101st birthday Jan. 4th at Crestview Manor where he is living. He observed his anniversary in a special way by accepting his first social security benefit check from Miss Mary Alice Coady, field representative from the social security district office at Fort Dodge. LAUNDROMAT FROZEN Early Jan. 17 customers at the J & D laundromat found the front door open and the washers frozen. A blow torch was used and it soon was ready for business again. About 40 attended the 6:30 pot luck supper Jan. 16 at Burt Methodist church. There was a larger attendance at the 7:30 program. Mrs. Ben Hoyeland, Buffalo Center, showed pictures and told of her work at Henderson Settlement in Kentucky. Linda and John Chipman sang. Mrs. F. L. Ryerson had devotions. Rev. Da vies introduced the speaker. The Lance Riebhoffs and Rev. John Riebhoff, Sanborn, were in an auto accident last week Wednesday. Three cars were involved near Sheldon, caused by slippery roads. No one was seriously injured. The Heart Association kickoff meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 27 at the Johnson House in Algona. Mrs. Donald Mitchell, Burt, Kossuth Chapter Chairman, asks chairmen and workers to attend to receive instructions and materials for the annual fund drive which starts Feb. 1. Guests Jan. 16 at Bruce Cranston's were the Jerry Lehrs, Sioux Rapids. Guests Jan. 16 at Ronald Jurgen's were the C. A. Jurgens, Ledyard, and Art Codys, Cylinder. Mrs. Vern Shipler spent several days at Pomeroy with her sister Mrs. Edwin Holtapp. Her husband died early Jan. 16 at Iowa City. The Ray Westlings, Vicki and Vern Shipler visited Sunday at George Westling's, Humboldt. Emil Lovstad had surgery at Iowa City Jan. 17. He is the father of Mrs. Val Gene West ling. Mrs. Martha Drager, Algona, spent Sunday at Homer Sabin's She is an aunt. The Bob Crails have a 6 Ib. 1 oz. daughter Wendy Sue born Jan. 14 at the Dickinson Memorial hospital at Spirit Lake. The Wilfred Woltzes are grandparents and the E. R. Woltzes are great grandparents. The W. D. Crails are grandparents and also great grandmother Grail. Mrs. Gary Newman and Darren are visiting the Wilfred Woltzes. Dawn Opheim was released Jan. 17 from St. Ann hospital where she had been a patient since Wednesday. The Dennis Johnsons visited last week at Chas. Curtis's. They will go to Lincoln, Nebr. Jan. ,23 where both are employed. He'"has r just completed four years in the air force. Mrs. Charles Curtis and Mar lys attended the open house Jan. 16 at St. John's Catholic church in Bancroft for the 25th wedding of the Clarence Piers Mrs. Clifford Curt|s is a daugh ter of the Diers.
