Coach Alex Wyllie, who is convenor of selectors, has stuck with the Test team which lost to Australia 9-21 a month ago, taking the world champion All Blacks to their first loss in four years. The big surprise was the selection of young Canterbury player Shayne Philpott as second-string fullback. Philpott has played only a handful of provincial games for Canterbury this season, and local commentators had favoured several other fullbacks ahead of him. Buist wins City to Bay ADELAIDE: New Zealand distance runner Marguerite Buist won her first Adelaide City-Bay fun run yesterday.

Buist, New Zealand's representative in the Auckland Commonwealth Games marathon, proved too good for former Australian champion Trudy Fenton. Running in perfect conditions, the young Kiwi clocked 40m 25s for the 1 2 km run from Adelaide's city centre to the seaside suburb of Glenelg. Fenton was second in 40m 57s, with another South Australian, Bev Lucas, third in 41m 56s. Adelaide runner Ray Bryant won the men's section from former State champion John Lisiewicz. Lemond's winning debut CHICAGO, Sunday: Three-time Tour de France champion Greg Lemond made his debut on a mountain bike yesterday, winning the 35 mile (56 km) Chequamegon Fat Tire Festival in Cable, northern Wisconsin.

A record 2,250 riders took part in the world's largest mountain bike race. Lemond pulled away from a pair of challengers 13 km from the finish to win on a soggy, muddy course in two hours, 17 minutes and 58 seconds 90 seconds ahead of fellow countryman Scott Hebel. Patrick Harper, also of the United States, was third. Goal record helps US NEW YORK, Sunday: Bruce Murray became the United States' all-time leading goal scorer in full international play yesterday as the US beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-0 in a soccer friendly in High Point, North Carolina. The US side dominated the first half to take a 2-0 lead, and scored a minute into the second half to again beat the team they defeated 1-0 last November to advance to the 1990 World Cup.

Murray's 10th international goal came in the 29th minute and made it 2-0 in favour of the US who had 13 shots in the first half against one for the visitors. Jordan out of games BEIJING, Sunday: Jordan has pulled out of the Asian Games which start in Beijing this week due to "financial the official New China News Agency said yesterday. The ithdrawal came ahead of a decision by the Olympic Committee of Asia on whether to ban Jordan's neighbour, Iraq, from the games following its invasion of Kuwait. A vote on whether to exclude Iraq will be held on Thursday, two days before the games open.
