Illlngworth (B. Hill). 12.46. By Ron Carter to make out that I was really fit." And when the field finally went down for the start Besanko began breathing heavily and hissing. It was all aimed at breaking Haskell's concentration.

At the first attempt to get the race under way the starter warn Haskell for being too slow in getting to the "set" position. Besanko continued with his loud noises as they got ready for the second attempt to start, and again Haskell was slow in coming up, and the starter ruled a break against him. Besanko's hissing and heavy breathing was starting to get under Haskell's skin. Haskell said as they go tready for the third attempt, "You couldn't hear at atom bomb go off with all the noise they're making here." His complaint brought no re sponse from the starter just a loud laugh from Besanko, and this upset Haskell even more. And when they were on their blocks for the third time Haskell beat the gun, and with two breaks against him, he was disqualified.

Normally he would have been put out and not allowed to run, but the starter said he could stay in the event adn run by invitation without scoring points for his club. OLYMPIC PARK. TOO V. Plant (Girnhuntv). 10 7.

Coiling wood 40, When it comes to gamesmanship in a 100 metres race, there's none better than national champion Graham Haskell. But at Olympic Park on Saturday Haskell found himself out-hustled by a schoolboy. So well that Haskell was disqualified one of ihe few times in his career that he's been bared. It all started when Haskell (Box Hill) got down on the starting blocks in lane four for the 100 clash with Beside him in lane three was public schools 100 and 200 champion, Barry Besanko, who says he has learnt a few tricks from his professional sprinting brother and St. Kilda footballer Neil Besanko.

Stoke, which took over the First Division leadership last week, indicated its determination to stay on top by hammering Birmingham 0-3 all goals coming in the first half.

Two of them were scored by former Birmingham player Jimmy Greenhoff, who went off with a broken nose five minutes before the interval. Stoke leads the table on 27 points one more than Everton, 2-0 winner at Leicester, and Manchester City, 3-2 winner at home to Sheffield United. Everton won convincingly with goals by John Hurst and George Telfer, despite losing 350,000 Martin Dobson with a leg injury in the seventh minute. Carlisle ended a run of six successive defeats by defeating Arsenal 2-1 in a match marred by a fight involving eight players. No players were booked or sent off.

Key match in Division Two was the spectacular 4-4 draw between Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester United with United the Second Division leader fighting back after trailing 3-1. The match was marred by crowd trouble. Several arrests were made before the kick-off and some fans were carried out on stretchers during the game. Results: ENGLISH DIVISION ONE. Birmingham 0.

Swanson (227.19), 2. MAC DIVOT And most of it rubbed off on a tall 13-year-old, Linda Hanel. In two butterfly races Linda broke 13 State records in the Victorian Amateur Swimming Association's December competitions. First she broke seven 200 metres butterfly records on Saturday and yesterday she set six more in the 100 metres. And now she holds every women's Victorian butterfly record in the book except two open records and she's not far off these either.

Her first swim in 2 min. 22.43 sec. cut. 1.12 off all the records from 13 years to the open residential record. Most of them were held by Lyn Celotte.

Yesterday she whipped through the 100-metres butterfly in 1:6.10 taking from 0.15 to almost 2.0 off the string of records. Linda, tall for her age she's 173 cm (5 ft. 8 in.) is coached by Jack Foster, Victoria's leading butterfly stroke coach. She has been swimming four years, but this is only her second full season. Her first two were interrupted by illness.

Brother and sister, Karen and Jeffrey Van de Graaf, were again among the record makers. Karen, 12. set three breaststroke records and Jeffrey, 15, broke two records and equalled another. His time of 1:14.40 equalled the Victorian 15 years 10 0 metres breaststroke time set by Ian O'Brien in O'Brien went on to win an Olympic Games Gold Medal. SATURDAY BOYS Open: 200 m.
