NEW TELEVISION Randy Boone, manipulator of the guitar and a minstrel with a repertoire of folk songs, is one of the new faces television presents this season. The 20 -year-old is one of the stars in a new comedy series, "It's a Man's World." I MONTGOMERY WARD TRUCK LOAD SALE R0CKW00L INSULATION By BOB THOMAS AP Movie-Television Writer HOLLYWOOD did we do before Mike Todd invented the term "cameo'?" said a film producer recently. "It's the magic word that can get a star to do a bit part." The dictionary defines cameo as "a gem carved in relief." That was the word that helped Todd, the great persuader, talk a platoon of top names into accepting tiny roles in his epic "Around the World in 80 Days." Producers today can thank the late showman for starting a trend that continues.

In the old days, a star wouldn't think of accepting a role in which he had less than SO per cent of the footage. Now you see stars taking roles their agents would have scoffed at years ago. Frank Sinatra, Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Tony Curtis, Shirley MacLaine and Robert Mitohum will be seen heavily disguised in tiny roles in "The List of Adrian Messenger." The all-slar comedy "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" will fealure in brief parts such names Jack Benny, the Three Stooges Busier Koalon, Don Knotts, Carl Reiner and Paul Ford. "The Longest Day" has an entire oast of cameo players. Stars like Anthony Quinn and Alec Guinness find themselves playing support to the actor in the title role of "Lawrence of Arabia," Peter O'Toole.

Tony Curtis plays a bit iin "Paris When It Sizzles" as a Tony Curtis-like movie star. If you want to be technical, you could divide the non-starring roles of stars into three categories: 1. Walk-ons. These are brief scenes of perhaps no more than two or three times, in which the star appears for shock'comedy value. The Hope-Crosby "Road" pictures were full of these.

2. Cameos. The cameo player usually has a well-defined though brief role extending through an important sequence. 3. Supporting roles.

These extend for a long sequence or even throughout the movie, but remain secondary to the starring roles. One Bag Covers 20 Sq. Along with the houses, terms are growing to fit the more efficient planning of living space.

For instance, by a house can be built with a "dressetory." This means that by setting up an area separated from the bedroom a dressing-bathing-toilet place can be formed. Encyclopedia Brltasnloa BY MAHY CAMPBELL AP Newsfeahires Writer "I'VE GOT THE WORLD on a String" was recorded by a thin singer on April 30, 1953. But anybody could tell you that the singer that song's lyrics contained more poetry than truth. Everybody knew Frank Sinatra was all washed up. He'd split with his recording company, Columbia, and his second wife, Ava Gardner.

The hysterical girls who had screamed and swooned in the war years weren't interested any more. But in 1953 Sinatra played Private Maggio in "From Here to Eternity" and he signed a seven- year contract to record for Capitol. The biggest comeback In modern show business had begun. Now, with the contract expired and Sinatra recording for his own company, Reprise, Capitol has gone through its vaults and chosen enough tapes for three Ips packaged together as "Sinatra, the Great Years." Sinatra fans, even those who've been collecting his records and therefore already have many of these songs, should love this anthology. ALL the big sellers aren't made 22 albums for 35 of them are.

In 1953, Sinatra scooped his notes. In "Violets for Your furs," (Nov. 5, 1953), with violin accompaniment, he scooped the "where" in "the snow melted where it lay" from the cellar to the attic. By 1954 he wasn't doing that any more. The style was becoming more confident, diction meticulous as it always had been, delivery still personal but a little faster.
